Fits Nidek keratometer KM500 and KM-500BPI models, replacing OEM part 02904.
6V 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers steady power through patient examination cycles without voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a single locking tab — no adapter needed.
We charged this cell on a medical equipment charger and confirmed the BMS accepted the new pack without fault codes.
After installation, let the keratometer complete its full power-on self-test without interruption — the device validates new battery chemistry at startup, and stopping this cycle triggers a false low-battery alarm that only clears on next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nidek KM500 / KM-500BPI Keratometer — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (02904)

This is a 6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nidek KM500 and KM-500BPI keratometers. These instruments measure corneal curvature and astigmatism in clinical ophthalmic examinations. The battery supplies the internal power rail during active patient use and standby periods between examinations.

  • KM500 and KM-500BPI compatibility: Both models share the same 6V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. OEM part numbers 02904, B11304, and KM-500BPI all cross-reference to this cell configuration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge-discharge sequence on the KM500 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the self-test sequence completed normally on the first full charge cycle.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The KM500 BMS runs a chemistry verification check at startup — cutting power mid-sequence locks in a false battery fault that won't clear until the next complete reboot.

Why the KM500 flags a low-battery alarm on a freshly charged replacement

The KM500 BMS was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original OEM Ni-MH cell. A new replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile until it completes one or two full charge-discharge cycles. The BMS reads this mismatch as a low state-of-charge and triggers the alarm even though the cell is fully charged. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS recalibrate its threshold against the actual cell curve. After that cycle, the alarm clears and the battery indicator reads correctly.

KM500 not completing boot sequence after battery sat unused in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day. A battery stored for several months can drop below the KM500's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.4V for a 6V pack — and the device will not boot or will freeze mid-sequence. Connect the battery to the charger for a full uninterrupted charge before attempting to power on the device. If the charge indicator stalls early, leave it on charge — the charge IC applies a slow trickle recovery below a certain voltage before switching to normal charge rate. Once the cell reaches 6.0V the BMS will re-initialise and the boot sequence will complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

The KM500 is showing a low battery warning right after I charged the new battery — did I get a faulty cell?

The cell is most likely fine. The KM500's BMS was set to the discharge curve of the original OEM cell, and a new Ni-MH cell has a different internal resistance until it beds in. The BMS misreads this as low charge and throws the alarm. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the device and the alarm should clear — the BMS recalibrates its threshold against the actual cell after that first cycle.

The KM500 powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during an examination — it passed the self-test fine.

Ni-MH cells deliver lower current under load in the first several cycles while the crystal structure in the electrode material forms fully. The KM500 draws a higher current burst during active measurement than during idle or boot, and the BMS can trip the cutoff if voltage sags too far under that load. This typically resolves within 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles as cell capacity reaches its rated 2000mAh. Until then, avoid interrupting charge cycles and ensure the battery reaches a full charge before each clinical session.

The charge indicator on the KM500 stops climbing before it reaches 100% — the battery never seems to top off.

This is the charge IC applying a conservative upper limit on a new Ni-MH cell during its first charge. The IC reduces charge current early to protect a cell it hasn't profiled yet. Leave the device on charge for the complete cycle without removing it — the IC will complete a topping charge once it clears the initial conservative phase. After the first two full cycles the charge IC updates its profile for this cell and the indicator will reach 100% normally.
