Fits Nintendo Advance SP models AGS-001 and AGS-003, replacing OEM part SAM-SPRBP.
3.7V 900mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the capacity original packs provided before degradation reduced playtime.
Connector slides into the battery slot with the contact edge facing the device spring terminals.
We bench-tested this cell in an AGS-001 unit; the BMS accepted the charge curve without faults or cutoff errors.
On first charge after installation, run one complete play session to automatic shutoff before recharging — the fuel gauge calibrates its empty reference point against that initial full discharge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SAM-SPRBP)

This is a 3.7V 900mAh Li-ion battery for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-001 and GBA SP). It fits the original clamshell handheld console released in 2003. Compatible part numbers include SAM-SPRBP and AGS-003.

  • AGS-001 and GBA SP compatibility: Both models use the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and charge management circuit. The SAM-SPRBP form factor — 55.16 x 31.71 x 5.44mm — seats correctly in either variant without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on an AGS-001 unit and monitored the charge IC handshake. The BMS accepted the full 900mAh charge curve without fault flags, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at low-voltage cutoff.
  • First-cycle calibration on the SP: After installing this battery, run one complete play session to automatic cutoff before recharging. The Advance SP's fuel gauge IC sets its empty reference point against the first full discharge — skipping this step causes the charge indicator to read inaccurately for weeks.

Fuel gauge jumping or freezing after a battery swap

The Advance SP uses a basic coulomb-counting circuit to estimate charge state. When a new cell goes in, the IC has no baseline discharge curve for the new cell and starts counting from a stale reference. The gauge can show full charge, then jump to one bar without warning. One full discharge-to-cutoff cycle resets the reference and the gauge stabilises from that point forward.

Console not charging the replacement cell at full current

The SP's charge IC applies a conservative pre-charge current when it detects a cell starting below roughly 3.0V — this is a protection behaviour, not a fault. A new cell sitting in storage can arrive slightly below that threshold. Leave the console on charge uninterrupted for at least two hours on the first session. Once the cell crosses 3.0V, the IC steps up to full charge current and the orange charge light will hold steady rather than flickering.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GBA SP shows a full battery light right after I install the new battery, then drops to empty after a few minutes of play — what's wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell itself. The Advance SP's fuel gauge IC lost its discharge reference when the old battery was removed, so it's reading from a stale baseline. Run one full play session to automatic power cutoff without interrupting it, then recharge completely. After that first full cycle, the IC recalibrates and the indicator tracks correctly.

The replacement battery arrived and the charge light just flickers instead of staying solid orange — is it actually charging?

It is charging, but at reduced pre-charge current. The SP's charge IC drops to a low trickle when it sees a cell below approximately 3.0V, which is common on cells that have been in storage. Leave the console plugged in without interrupting it. Once the cell voltage climbs past 3.0V — usually within 30 to 60 minutes — the IC switches to full current and the orange light holds steady.

My GBA SP plays for noticeably less time than I expected even after a few charges — is the replacement cell defective?

Li-ion cells don't always deliver rated capacity straight out of the box. A new 900mAh cell typically needs three to five full discharge-and-recharge cycles before the electrolyte is fully conditioned and capacity reaches its rated figure. Run the console to automatic cutoff, recharge fully, and repeat. By the fourth or fifth cycle, play duration should reflect what a 900mAh cell at 3.7V can actually deliver.
