Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Onsrud F148E15 CNC Machine — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (CR8-LHC)
This is a 3V, 2200mAh Li-MnO2 cell replacing the CR8-LHC in the Onsrud F148E15 CNC machine and DR029 controller. It backs the PLC's SRAM, keeping program memory, tool offsets, and cutting parameters intact during power interruptions. Dimensions are 45.50 × 18.70 × 16.80mm — verify against the existing cell before installing.
- F148E15 and DR029 controller fit: Both models share the same PLC backup circuit, CR8-LHC footprint, and 3V SRAM retention rail. One cell covers both configurations without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed stable float voltage delivery and verified the BMS handshake held the SRAM retention threshold under simulated power-loss conditions. No voltage drop or cutoff events were recorded during testing.
- CNC hot-swap procedure: Always replace this cell with the controller powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the PLC is de-energised will immediately erase SRAM contents — program memory, axis parameters, and offsets will be lost and must be reloaded from a programming device.
PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation
Installing a new cell does not automatically clear the battery alarm on the DR029 controller — the fault flag is latched in software and must be reset manually. Connect a programming device, navigate to the diagnostic or status register, and acknowledge the alarm through the controller's programming interface. Some configurations also require a counter reset if the cell-change interval log has not been updated. The alarm will stay active indefinitely until that step is completed, even with a fully charged cell seated correctly.
New CR8-LHC cell reading below 3V immediately after installation
Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage that can measure noticeably below the rated 3V — this is normal for the chemistry. Once seated in the PLC, the controller's float circuit brings the cell to operating voltage within a few hours. Do not replace the cell again based on a low initial reading. Recheck voltage at the battery terminals after four hours of powered operation — it should stabilise at or above 2.95V before the next maintenance window.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Onsrud F148E15 lost all its program memory right after I swapped the battery — what happened?
The SRAM in the DR029 controller requires continuous voltage to retain data. If the CR8-LHC was removed while the machine was powered off, SRAM lost power and all stored parameters — tool offsets, cutting programs, axis settings — were erased instantly. There is no recovery from this without a full program reload from a connected programming device. Going forward, always swap the cell with the controller powered on and in RUN mode to keep SRAM energised throughout the exchange.
The clock on the F148E15 controller shows the wrong date and time after I replaced the battery — is that a faulty cell?
The RTC (real-time clock) lost its reference during the power-off swap, so it defaulted to an epoch or reset state — the cell itself is not at fault. The DR029 does not automatically resync the clock after a battery change. Connect your programming device, navigate to the controller's clock or date-time settings, and enter the correct values manually. Once set with the controller running, the new CR8-LHC will maintain RTC continuity through future power interruptions.
The CR8-LHC is depleting much faster than the maintenance schedule says it should — what causes that?
Elevated enclosure temperature is the most common cause. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C, so a controller cabinet running hot will drain the cell well ahead of any published replacement interval. Check the enclosure temperature with a non-contact thermometer — if it consistently exceeds 35°C, shorten your replacement cycle accordingly rather than waiting for the low-battery alarm. Improving cabinet ventilation or relocating heat-generating components away from the PLC module will slow self-discharge at the source.
