Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JOHNSON Controls Metasys — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (NU-BAT300-1)

This is a 6V 1500mAh Ni-CD replacement for the JOHNSON Controls Metasys building automation controller battery. It fits the Controls Metasys and NU-NCM300-1 modules, where it maintains SRAM program memory and RTC data during mains power interruptions. Capacity is 1500mAh (9Wh), matching the original NU-BAT300-1 specification exactly.

  • Metasys module compatibility: The Controls Metasys and NU-NCM300-1 share the same 6V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirement. Both modules draw from this cell to hold SRAM state and keep the real-time clock running when mains power drops.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a PLC backup load profile. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, float charge settled at the correct voltage, and SRAM retention held across a simulated mains-out event.
  • Hot-swap procedure — critical for Metasys: Always replace this battery with the Metasys controller powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off will wipe SRAM — the full program will need to be reloaded from a connected programming device before the controller can resume normal operation.

Metasys battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

Installing a new cell does not automatically clear the battery alarm in Metasys. The alarm flag is stored in software and requires a manual acknowledgement step inside the Metasys programming or site director interface. Navigate to the alarm management panel and clear the battery fault event directly. Until that step is done, the new cell will function correctly but the alarm will continue to display regardless of actual battery condition.

New cell reading lower than 6V immediately after installation

Ni-CD cells ship in a partial storage state — typically 5.4V to 5.7V — to reduce capacity loss in transit. This is normal and does not indicate a faulty cell. Once installed in a powered Metasys controller, the float charge circuit will bring the cell up to its rated 6V within a few hours. Verify with a multimeter at the battery connector after four hours of controller-on time — the reading should be at or above 5.85V.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Metasys controller lost its program after we swapped the battery — what happened?

The SRAM that holds the Metasys program is live only while the controller is powered or the battery is connected. If the old cell was removed while the controller was off — even briefly — SRAM lost power and the program was erased. The fix is a full program reload from a connected programming device. Going forward, always swap the battery with the controller powered on and in RUN mode to keep SRAM live throughout the swap.

Our Metasys battery is depleting much faster than the previous one did — same cell, shorter interval between changes. Why?

Ni-CD self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise in ambient temperature. If the controller enclosure runs warm — common in plant rooms and rooftop AHU panels — a cell that lasts 18 months in a 20°C environment may last under 9 months at 30°C. Check the enclosure temperature with a probe during normal operating hours. If it consistently exceeds 25°C, increase your inspection interval and consider improving enclosure ventilation before the next replacement cycle.

The Metasys clock and date are wrong after replacing the battery — how do we fix it?

The real-time clock lost its reference when the battery was disconnected while the controller was off. The RTC does not re-sync automatically — it holds whatever value was in register at power-down, which is often corrupt or zeroed. Set the correct date and time manually through the Metasys Site Director or N2 programming interface under the controller's time configuration settings. Confirm the update saved by cycling the display view and checking the timestamp on a new alarm or log entry.
