Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPN-4000i / OPN-4000n — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SP622540)
This 3.7V 500mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original SP622540 / ET622538P pack in the Opticon OPN-4000i and OPN-4000n pocket barcode scanners. At 37.20 × 24.60 × 5.80mm, it matches the factory footprint and connector orientation. Capacity is 1.85Wh — identical to the original spec.
- OPN-4000i and OPN-4000n compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V single-cell architecture with the same BMS handshake and connector pinout, so one part number covers both scanners without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the OPN-4000 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, voltage held steady under combined scan-trigger and wireless radio draw, and charge termination triggered correctly at full capacity.
- First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack use: After installing the new pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and let it complete a full charge cycle before the shift starts. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS cutoffs during the first heavy scanning run.
Cradle showing a charging error on the new pack
The OPN-4000 cradle reads pack state through gold pogo pins on the scanner's base. Oxidation, dust, or residue on either the cradle contacts or the replacement pack's terminals raises contact resistance enough for the dock controller to flag a fault. Wipe the pack contacts and cradle pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until it clicks. If the error clears within 30 seconds the contacts were the cause — if it persists, check cradle supply voltage at the USB or DC input, which should read 5V ±5%.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The OPN-4000i transmits scanned data over Bluetooth while simultaneously firing the imager — both loads hit the cell at the same moment during a fast burst. When the pack is partially discharged, this combined inrush can pull cell voltage low enough for the radio module to reset, dropping the Bluetooth link. The BMS does not trip, so the scanner appears functional but stops sending data to the host. Keep the pack above 30% charge during heavy burst sessions — a cell voltage below approximately 3.5V under load is the threshold where the radio becomes unstable.

Frequently Asked Questions
My OPN-4000i won't read barcodes after I put the new battery in — is the scanner broken?
The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire the illumination and capture the frame — if the replacement pack shipped partially discharged, the cell may be too low to sustain scanner power during the read cycle. Place the scanner in the cradle and complete a full charge before attempting to scan. We confirmed on the bench that the OPN-4000 imager recovers fully once the cell reaches 3.7V. If barcodes still fail to read after a full charge, check that the scan window is clean and unobstructed.
The scanner feels warm after a long shift in the warehouse — is something wrong with the battery?
The OPN-4000i runs Bluetooth radio polling and imager firing simultaneously in a compact sealed housing with no active cooling, so heat build-up during a sustained shift is normal. The Li-Polymer cell itself contributes a small amount of resistive heating under continuous draw. What to watch for is warmth concentrated at the battery cover rather than the top of the scanner — that pattern can indicate the cell is working harder than expected due to a marginal contact. If the housing becomes uncomfortable to hold, dock the scanner and let it cool before resuming; internal temperature above roughly 45°C accelerates capacity fade in Li-Polymer cells.
New battery isn't lasting as long as the original did on day one — what causes that?
Li-Polymer cells ship in a storage state, typically 40–60% charge, and the first few cycles are needed before the cell reaches its rated capacity. If the pack was put straight into service without a full initial charge, the BMS may also have set conservative charge limits based on that first partial cycle. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles — charge to 100% in the cradle, use until the scanner signals low battery, then recharge fully. Capacity typically stabilises to the rated 500mAh by the third cycle.
