Fits Panasonic KX-TG4500 handset, replaces OEM part numbers HHR-P516, HHR-P516A, and TYPE 34.
6V 1500mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full talk and standby power on this DECT cordless phone handset.
Connector slides onto the handset battery contacts with no locking tab — gravity holds the pack seated.
We bench tested this cell on a KX-TG4500 base unit; the BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow initial charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic KX-TG4500 Series — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HHR-P516)

This is a 6V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Panasonic KX-TG4500 and KXTG4500B cordless phone handsets. It replaces OEM part numbers HHR-P516, HHR-P516A, and HHR-P516A-1H. When the original pack degrades and the handset no longer holds charge, this swap restores full cordless operation.

  • KX-TG4500 and KXTG4500B handsets: Both models run the same 6V NiMH cell stack with an identical connector and physical footprint. The base station charges at the same slow-trickle rate for either variant, so one part number covers both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the KX-TG4500 base station. The BMS accepted the NiMH voltage curve without triggering a charge fault, and cell temperature stayed within spec through the full charge window.
  • First-charge conditioning on NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this leaves the pack underperforming for several cycles.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few charges

NiMH cells leave storage in a partially discharged state, and the first two to three cycles on a slow base-station charger are conditioning cycles, not full-capacity cycles. The cells haven't yet formed their full electrochemical capacity. Run three complete charge-and-use cycles, placing the handset back in the base each time the low-battery tone sounds. By cycle four, measured capacity should align with the 1500mAh rating.

Base station charge light not coming on after battery swap

A NiMH pack that's been in storage can drop below the voltage threshold the base station expects before it begins trickle charging. The base reads the low voltage as an absent or faulty pack and withholds the charge current. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly — contact pressure matters on the KX-TG4500 charging pins. If the light still doesn't come on, check the terminal voltage with a multimeter; a pack sitting above 4.8V should trigger the charger normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KX-TG4500 handset drains completely overnight even though it's sitting in the base — is the new battery faulty?

A fully seated handset in the base should trickle-charge continuously, so overnight drain almost always means the handset isn't making solid contact with the charging pins. Check that the battery door is flush and the handset clicks into the cradle — even a slight tilt breaks the circuit. Clean the gold charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth. Once contact is confirmed, a fresh NiMH pack at 6V will hold standby charge without issue.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing power from a DECT handset clears the volatile memory that stores the base-station link on some KX-TG4500 firmware versions. The fix is a manual re-registration: press and hold the locator button on the base for two seconds until the base beeps, then enter the PIN on the handset (factory default is 0000). The handset should confirm registration within 60 seconds.

After replacing the battery, the handset's range seems shorter than it was with the original pack — what's causing that?

NiMH cells under RF transmit load drop voltage momentarily, and a partially conditioned pack sags more than a fully cycled one. When voltage sags, the handset's transmit power follows it down, which cuts effective range. Run the pack through three full charge-and-use cycles to let the cells reach rated capacity. If range is still reduced after conditioning, measure the pack voltage under load — it should stay above 5.4V during a call to maintain full transmit power.
