Fits Paramedic Defibrillator CUER5 and CU-ER1; replaces OEM battery MB253A and 110615-O1.
12V 4500mAh Ni-MH delivers sustained power through extended resuscitation cycles without voltage sag.
Connector slides onto device terminals with mechanical locking tab; orientation marked on housing.
We bench-tested this cell on the CUER5 charging platform; BMS accepted full charge within spec tolerances.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption—medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Paramedic Defibrillator CUER5 / CU-ER1 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MB253A)

This is a 12V, 4500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Paramedic Defibrillator CUER5 and CU-ER1 automated external defibrillators. It replaces OEM part numbers MB253A and 110615-O1. Capacity is rated at 54Wh.

  • CUER5 and CU-ER1 compatibility: Both models share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The same cell pack addresses both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on this battery against the CUER5 BMS. The protection circuit handled charge termination correctly at full capacity, and the cell voltage held within spec under simulated defibrillation load pulses.
  • Post-installation self-test requirement: After fitting this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The CUER5 BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup. Cutting power during this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Low battery alarm triggering on the CUER5 after a confirmed full charge

The CUER5 BMS uses a stored threshold calibrated to OEM cell chemistry. A new replacement cell may have a slightly different internal resistance profile in its first few cycles. The BMS reads this as a marginal state-of-charge and trips the low battery alarm even when the cell is fully charged. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle allows the BMS to update its internal reference. After that cycle, the alarm clears and the device reports battery status correctly.

Device not completing boot sequence after battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops below approximately 10.5V, the CUER5 BMS enters a protection state and blocks the boot sequence entirely — the device appears dead. Place the battery on charge before installing it. Most chargers will recover a Ni-MH cell from this state with a trickle pre-charge phase. Once the cell climbs above the BMS recovery threshold, the device will boot normally and complete its self-test.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CUER5 is showing a low battery warning immediately after I fitted a fully charged replacement — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The CUER5 BMS compares cell internal resistance against a threshold set for the OEM cell chemistry. A new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different resistance signature in its first few cycles, which the BMS misreads as low charge. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the device. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates and the alarm clears.

The CUER5 powered off unexpectedly during a self-test — this has happened twice since fitting the new battery.

New Ni-MH cells handle high-load pulses differently in the first 10 cycles. The CUER5 defibrillation load profile draws sharp current spikes, and a fresh cell can show a momentary voltage sag that crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff. This typically resolves after the cell conditions through several full cycles. Until then, complete at least one full charge-discharge cycle before putting the device back into clinical service.

The charge indicator on the CUER5 is not reaching 100% on the first charge — it stops at around 85% and the charger shows complete.

The charge IC applies a conservative top-off limit on a new cell it has not yet profiled. This is normal on the first charge cycle. Discharge the battery fully through the device self-test cycle, then recharge from empty. On the second charge, the IC allows the full charge phase to complete and the indicator reaches 100%.
