Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

3GEN DermLite DL5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (147379)
This is a 3.7V, 3400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the 3GEN DermLite DL5 dermatoscope. It fits the DL5 platform directly, using OEM part references 147379, DL5-B, DL5-1351, and DL5-1351A. If your DL5 is no longer holding charge or the original cell has degraded, this cell restores power to the device.
- DL5 platform fit: The DermLite DL5 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a BMS handshake tied to the device charge IC. All four OEM part numbers listed above map to the same cell format — same connector pinout, same BMS communication profile.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles against the DL5 charge IC. The BMS reported correct state-of-charge, the protection circuit triggered at expected cutoff voltages, and the device completed its startup sequence without faults.
- Post-swap startup procedure: After fitting this battery, allow the DL5 to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification at startup — cutting power mid-sequence logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
DermLite DL5 not completing boot sequence after battery swap
The DL5 runs a self-test at startup that checks cell voltage against an internal threshold. A new cell arriving slightly below that threshold — common after shipping and storage — can cause the boot sequence to stall or abort. This is not a fault with the battery itself. Charge the new cell to full before the first boot attempt, then power on and leave the device undisturbed until the self-test completes. The BMS learn cycle requires one full charge-discharge pass before the device treats the cell as fully verified.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on first charge
The DL5 charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or unrecognised cell. This is intentional — the IC holds the cell at a lower termination voltage on the first pass to condition the chemistry. The indicator will appear to plateau below full. Let the charge cycle run to natural termination without unplugging early. After one full cycle, the charge IC recalibrates and subsequent charges will reach the correct terminal voltage of 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My DermLite DL5 is alarming low battery immediately after I just fully charged the new battery — what's wrong?
The DL5 BMS compares cell voltage against a threshold calibrated for the OEM cell's charge profile. A new replacement cell hasn't completed a learn cycle yet, so the BMS can flag a false low-battery condition even at full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — charge to full, use the device until it powers down at low-voltage cutoff, then charge again. After that cycle, the BMS recognises the cell and the alarm clears.
The DL5 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for a few weeks before I installed it — is the cell dead?
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage dropped below the DL5's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — the protection circuit locks out the output to prevent damage. Connect the device to its charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without attempting to power on. The charge IC will trickle-charge the cell back above the recovery threshold, after which the BMS re-enables output and the device will power on normally.
My DL5 shuts off unexpectedly mid-examination during the first week with the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
New Li-ion cells run hotter and voltage-sag more under load during the first 10 charge-discharge cycles while the electrode chemistry settles. The DL5 load profile — sustained LED array plus imaging circuit — stresses a new cell harder than casual use, which can trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff before the charge indicator suggests it should. This behaviour normalises after 8 to 10 full cycles. Track shutoffs against the charge indicator reading; if cutoffs happen above 30% indicated charge after the break-in period, check that the battery contacts are clean and making full contact.
