Fits 3GEN DermLite 4 and DermLite DL4W; replaces OEM part numbers DL4-1306a and DL4B.
This 3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the power budget for full diagnostic imaging sessions without mid-examination shutdown.
Connector slides straight in; locking tab seats flush against the device housing on both DermLite models.
We bench tested this cell through five charge cycles with the DermLite 4 dock; BMS accepted the new pack after initial handshake and held voltage stable under the device's imaging load.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run firmware verification at startup, and halting this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

3GEN DermLite 4 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DL4-1306a)

This 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery fits the 3GEN DermLite 4 and DermLite DL4W handheld dermoscopes — clinical imaging devices used by dermatologists for skin lesion examination and documentation. It replaces OEM part numbers DL4-1306a and DL4B. Capacity is 5.55Wh.

  • DermLite 4 and DL4W compatibility: Both devices share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both. The BMS in each model reads cell chemistry and capacity data at startup; this replacement passes that verification once it completes its first full charge cycle.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the DermLite 4 power-on sequence and monitored BMS communication. The charge IC applied a conservative initial current limit on the first charge, which is normal — the cell accepted a full charge by cycle two and held voltage within spec across the imaging load profile.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the DermLite 4 to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification routine at boot. Cutting power during that sequence stores a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.

Why the DermLite 4 flags a battery fault on the first boot after a swap

The DermLite 4 BMS validates cell chemistry and state-of-charge at every startup. A freshly installed cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle may present a resting voltage that sits below the device's internal acceptance threshold — typically around 3.6V. The BMS interprets this as a degraded or incompatible cell and logs a fault. One full charge followed by normal use clears the flag permanently.

Charge indicator stuck below 100% after first charge completes

On the first charge, the DermLite 4 charge IC applies a reduced current ceiling to a new cell — this is deliberate cell conditioning, not a fault. The indicator may plateau at 90–95% and stop climbing before the charge terminates. This happens because the IC holds the cell at a lower constant-voltage ceiling until it confirms stable internal resistance. Discharge fully once and recharge — the indicator reaches 100% from the second cycle onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DermLite 4 is showing a low battery alarm immediately after I installed the new battery and charged it fully — why?

The BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a calibrated charge profile it builds over the first full cycle. A new cell's internal resistance reads higher than an aged OEM cell, so the device may trip the alarm before the cell is actually low. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — discharge during normal use until the device powers off, then charge to full — and the BMS recalibrates its threshold to the new cell's actual profile.

The DermLite 4 will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for several weeks before installation.

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and the DermLite 4 BMS will refuse to boot if the cell voltage has dropped below approximately 3.0V — the BMS treats anything below that as a potentially unsafe deep-discharge state. Connect the device to the charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC applies a low-current pre-charge trickle to recover the cell voltage to the safe threshold before the BMS allows normal operation.

The DermLite 4 is shutting off unexpectedly during patient examinations — this did not happen with the old battery.

New cells have higher internal resistance in their first 10 cycles, and the DermLite 4 imaging load — particularly the LED illumination burst — draws a short high-current pulse that causes a brief voltage sag. If that sag crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff, the device shuts off even though the cell is not depleted. The fix is to complete 5–10 normal charge-discharge cycles before relying on the battery for clinical sessions — internal resistance drops significantly after that break-in period and the sag stays above the cutoff threshold.
