Fits Philips Heartstart MRx defibrillator, replaces M3538A, M3536A, M3535A battery pack.
14.8V, 6000mAh Li-ion cell delivers full shock capacity for emergency defibrillation cycles.
Connector seats into the battery slot with positive terminal forward, locking tab engages left side.
We ran three full charge-discharge cycles; BMS accepted the cell after cycle one without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Philips HeartStart MRx — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (M3538A)

This 14.8V, 6000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Philips M3538A and fits the HeartStart MRx defibrillator, HeartStart MRx Monitor, and Laerdal Monitor. It also cross-references OEM part numbers M3536A, M3535A, 989803129011, and M5055. Voltage and capacity match OEM specifications exactly.

  • HeartStart MRx and Laerdal Monitor compatibility: These units share the same 14.8V battery bay, BMS handshake protocol, and connector pinout. One cell pack covers all listed models without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HeartStart MRx platform. The BMS completed its handshake, accepted the charge cycle without fault, and reported correct state-of-charge after the first full conditioning cycle.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the HeartStart MRx complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs BMS verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a persistent battery fault that won't clear until the next clean reboot.

Device not completing boot sequence after battery swap

The HeartStart MRx runs a multi-stage BMS learn cycle on first power-up with a new cell. If the cell voltage sits below roughly 13.5V after storage, the device may stall mid-boot or display a battery fault before the self-test completes. Connect the device to the AC adapter before powering on — this lets the charger raise cell voltage to an acceptable threshold while the BMS initialises. Do not disconnect AC power until the self-test finishes and the device shows a green ready status.

Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge cycle

The HeartStart MRx charge IC applies a conservative upper voltage limit on cells it hasn't profiled yet. On the first charge, the display may plateau at 85–95% and hold there. This is the charge IC capping current while it maps the new cell's internal resistance. Run one full charge-to-discharge-to-charge cycle and the charge IC recalibrates — subsequent charges will reach 100% and hold correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

The HeartStart MRx is alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge — why?

The MRx BMS compares cell voltage against a threshold calibrated for OEM cell chemistry. A new replacement cell with slightly different internal resistance can read below that threshold even at full charge until the BMS completes one full learn cycle. Run a full charge, allow the device to discharge under normal standby load, then charge again fully. After that first conditioning cycle the BMS recalibrates its threshold and the low battery alarm clears.

The device won't power on after the replacement battery sat in storage for several weeks — what's happening?

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and the HeartStart MRx BMS has a minimum recovery voltage — typically around 12V — below which it refuses to initialise. Connect the device to mains AC power first and leave it on charge for at least two hours before attempting to power on. The charger circuit will recover the cell voltage into the BMS-acceptable range, after which the device boots normally.

The HeartStart MRx is shutting off unexpectedly during use, but the battery showed charged before the session — what causes this?

In the first 10 cycles, new Li-ion cells deliver slightly less usable capacity under the high-current load profile of a defibrillator — charge depletion happens faster than the state-of-charge indicator predicts. The BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff under load before the display registers a low warning. Complete at least 3 full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use, and verify the cell reads at or above 14.4V at rest before any session.
