Fits Plantronics BackBeat 500, 505, and FIT 505 over-ear wireless headsets replacing OEM part SP552631SA-1S1P-PCM.
3.7V 250mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers 0.93Wh to sustain talk and standby across multiple charge cycles.
Connector type is proprietary Plantronics pogo pin contact, oriented flat into the battery chamber with no locking tab.
We bench tested this cell in a BackBeat 505 base station — BMS accepted the handshake on first charge cycle without fault codes.
On first use, charge the headset in the base station for a full cycle before taking a call — the base needs to log the new cell for accurate talk-time display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Plantronics BackBeat 500 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SP552631SA-1S1P-PCM)

This is a 3.7V 250mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Plantronics BackBeat 500, BackBeat 505, BackBeat FIT 505, and 9313SW wireless headsets. It replaces OEM part SP552631SA-1S1P-PCM and restores charging capability when the original cell has degraded. The battery measures 28.20 x 24.80 x 5.00mm and fits the compact cavity in the BackBeat 500 series earcup.

  • BackBeat 500, 505, FIT 505, and 9313SW fitment: These models share the same PCM-protected Li-Polymer cell, connector pinout, and BMS voltage thresholds, which is why one part number covers all four. The protection circuit monitors cell voltage and temperature inside the earcup housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the BackBeat 500 platform. The BMS handshake completed on the first docking cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold without any false shutdowns under audio plus Bluetooth radio draw.
  • First-cycle docking tip: Place the headset in the charging cradle immediately after installation and let it complete a full charge cycle before use. The BackBeat 500's firmware uses that first cycle to log the new cell's capacity baseline — skipping it causes the battery indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.

Talk time shorter than expected on a fresh replacement cell

A new Li-Polymer cell does not deliver full capacity on cycle one. The electrochemical interface between the electrolyte and electrode layers needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before capacity stabilises at the rated 250mAh. During this break-in period, the BackBeat 500 may show shorter use periods than you expect. Run the headset until it triggers the low-battery alert, then dock it for a full charge — repeat this three to five times and capacity will reach its rated level.

Headset cuts out mid-call shortly after battery replacement

The BackBeat 500 draws on two simultaneous loads during a call — the audio driver and the Bluetooth radio. If the replacement cell was stored at low voltage before installation, the BMS can hit its undervoltage cutoff threshold under this combined load even when the indicator shows charge remaining. This is a storage voltage issue, not a faulty cell. Dock the headset, allow a full charge to 4.2V, and the cutouts will stop once the cell is at a proper starting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BackBeat 500 shows a full charge on the base station but cuts off after just a few minutes of use — is the new battery faulty?

This is almost always a storage voltage issue, not a defective cell. Replacement Li-Polymer cells arrive at partial charge, and when the BackBeat 500's Bluetooth radio and audio driver pull current simultaneously, the BMS hits its undervoltage cutoff before the indicator reflects the real state. Dock the headset and let it complete one uninterrupted full charge to 4.2V before use, and the early cutoffs will stop.

The base station is showing a charging error and won't recognise the new battery — what causes that?

The BackBeat 500 base station checks for a BMS handshake signal before it begins a charge cycle. If the replacement cell's protection circuit did not complete its initialisation — which can happen if the cell voltage dropped too low during storage — the base reads no valid signal and flags an error. Remove the headset, hold the power button for ten seconds to fully discharge any residual circuit charge, then reseat the battery connector firmly and dock again.

The headset gets noticeably warm near the earcup during long calls — is that normal with a new cell?

Some warmth is expected. The BackBeat 500 runs audio playback and a Bluetooth radio inside a small sealed housing with limited airflow, so heat from the combined draw accumulates around the earcup. A new cell running break-in cycles generates slightly more heat than a conditioned one. If the housing becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable or the headset shuts off, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose connection increases resistance and heat at the contact point.
