Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Point Mobile PM70 — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (70-BTSC)
This 3.8V, 2900mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Point Mobile PM70 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the PM70 directly using the original battery bay and connector. Voltage and capacity match the factory spec — 3.8V, 2900mAh (11.02Wh).
- PM70 platform fit: The PM70 uses a slim single-cell Li-ion pack with a locked voltage rail at 3.8V nominal. The BMS handshake on this device checks cell impedance at startup — a cell outside spec triggers a boot fault before the OS loads. This replacement pack meets that impedance window.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through simulated scan-burst sequences and monitored BMS cutoff behaviour under combined laser and wireless radio draw. The cell held voltage above the BMS low-threshold floor across repeated trigger pulls without tripping an early cutoff.
- First-shift cradle protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell on first use prevents a false BMS trip during heavy early-shift scanning.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new PM70 battery pack
The PM70 cradle reads the battery through spring-loaded dock contacts on the base of the unit. If those contacts have oxidation or debris from warehouse handling, the cradle sees high contact resistance and throws a charging fault rather than starting the charge cycle. This is not a faulty pack — it is a contact issue. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. The fault clears once contact resistance drops below the cradle's threshold and the charge handshake completes.
PM70 losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During fast barcode scanning, the PM70 draws current simultaneously from the scan engine and the wireless radio — both firing in short, overlapping bursts. On a degraded or deeply discharged cell, this combined inrush pulls the voltage low enough that the radio drops its connection to maintain power to the scan engine. The result looks like a network fault but the root cause is voltage sag at the cell. Charge the replacement pack fully before use and confirm cell voltage reads at or above 3.8V before starting a high-volume scanning shift.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PM70 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?
The PM70's scan engine needs a minimum voltage threshold to fire the imager at full power. If the replacement pack was installed at low charge, the cell voltage may be just above the boot threshold but below what the scan engine needs for a clean read. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before scanning — once the cell is at 3.8V or above, the imager fires at the correct power level and reads resume normally.
My PM70 runs noticeably warm during a long scanning shift — is that a battery problem?
Sustained heat during extended shifts on the PM70 comes from the combination of continuous scan-engine draw and wireless radio polling inside a compact enclosed housing with limited airflow — not a defective cell. The pack itself generates some heat under sustained draw, which adds to the scanner's own thermal load. This is normal behaviour for the device class. If the housing becomes too hot to hold comfortably, rotate to a second charged pack and let the first cool in the cradle before recharging.
The PM70 shows a charging indicator but the battery level isn't rising after sitting in the cradle — what should I check?
This usually means the cradle hasn't completed its charge handshake with the pack. Dirty or misaligned dock contacts are the most common cause — the cradle draws a trickle or shows an indicator without actually delivering full charge current. Remove the scanner, wipe the battery contacts and cradle dock contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat the scanner until it clicks firmly into the dock. Check that the charge indicator changes state within 60 seconds of reseating — if it does, the handshake has completed and charging is underway.
