Fits PoulanPro PR275Ci, PR280Li, HT24i, SN280Li and replaces OEM part numbers PR140Li, PR280Li, 590 92 38-01, 590 92 38-04, 590923801, 590923804, 590923805, 5909238-0.
58V and 3000mAh capacity delivers consistent power to the cutting deck and propulsion motor across typical residential mowing sessions.
Battery slides into the vertical slot on the mower frame with connector alignment notch facing forward; locking tab engages with a quarter-turn clockwise.
Bench testing showed the BMS held steady through full discharge cycles without early cutoff; thermal sensor tracked motor load spikes during blade engagement without nuisance trips.
Before first use of mowing season, bring the battery indoors overnight if outdoor temperature is below 10°C — cold Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance and the blade motor inrush current can trip the BMS on a frozen pack.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

PoulanPro PR275Ci / PR280Li Series — 58V Li-ion Replacement Battery (590923801)

This 58V 3000mAh (174Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack on the PoulanPro PR275Ci and PR280Li self-propelled cordless mowers. It also fits the HT24i and SN280Li platforms that share the same 58V battery rail and connector housing. OEM part numbers covered include PR140Li, PR280Li, and 590923804.

  • PR275Ci / PR280Li platform fit: These models share a common 58V bus, identical connector keying, and the same BMS handshake protocol — the battery seats and communicates with the deck controller without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through blade-start inrush cycles on a PR275Ci deck. The BMS held steady through repeated high-draw motor starts and transitioned cleanly into steady-state cutting current without tripping.
  • First-season cold storage tip: Before the first spring mow, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current can trip the BMS on a pack that hasn't warmed to room temperature.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load

The PR275Ci blade motor draws significantly more current through dense or wet grass than on a dry, maintained lawn. When that load spike exceeds the BMS overcurrent threshold, the pack shuts down mid-row as a protection response. This isn't a battery fault — it's the BMS doing its job. Slow the mowing pace in heavy sections to reduce inrush demand and keep the pack below the cutoff trigger.

Charger showing fault light after mower sat unused all winter

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly over months of storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell over winter, most chargers read it as a fault and refuse to begin a charge cycle. The fix is a slow-recovery charge — if your charger has a recovery or wake mode, use it. If not, some packs will recover after being connected and disconnected from the charger several times, allowing cell voltage to creep above the acceptance threshold before a full charge cycle begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PoulanPro PR275Ci cuts out halfway through a row then starts again after a minute — what's causing that?

That's thermal protection activating. The blade motor pulls high current through thick or wet grass, the pack's temperature climbs past the BMS cutoff point, and it shuts down to protect the cells. After a short cooldown — typically around five minutes — the pack resets and runs again. Work in smaller passes through dense sections to keep the load manageable and stop the cycle from repeating.

The new battery feels noticeably warmer than the old one after a full mow — is something wrong?

New cells run hotter than a broken-in pack for the first several charge and discharge cycles. The internal resistance is slightly higher out of the box, which generates more heat under load. This is normal and typically settles after five full cycles. If the pack is still running unusually hot after that, check that the battery compartment vents on the mower deck are clear of grass clippings.

My mower performs noticeably weaker on the first cold morning of spring even with a full charge — why?

Li-ion capacity drops when cell temperature falls below 10°C. The blade motor and propulsion system both pull hard at start-up, and a cold pack simply can't deliver the same peak current as a warm one — so the mower feels sluggish. Bring the battery inside for a few hours before your first cold-weather mow. Once the cells are at room temperature, full performance returns.
