This is a 3.7V 1250mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the PRIMA DS-8330 compact digital camera. It also fits the DS-8340, DS-588, and DS-A350, which share the same voltage rail and physical cell format. Capacity figures come from the product specification — 4.63Wh total energy.

The DS-8330 uses a voltage-threshold system to estimate remaining charge. A new cell that has not been fully cycled can sit at a resting voltage the camera interprets as depleted — even if the cell is holding charge. The BMS compares resting voltage against fixed thresholds set for the original cell's discharge curve. Charge the replacement fully in the OEM charger first, then insert it — the camera should read the correct state at 4.2V full charge.

This happens when the camera's indicator hasn't yet calibrated to the new cell's discharge curve. The DS-8330 maps percentage to voltage drop rate — a fresh replacement cell discharges slightly differently than a worn original. The display catches up after one full charge-to-depletion cycle. Run the camera down to auto-shutoff, then charge fully to 4.2V, and the readout should stabilise.

My DS-8330 is showing "no battery" or refusing to power on with the new cell installed — is the battery faulty?

Most likely not. The DS-8330 BMS runs an authentication check on first insert, and a cell that hasn't been charged yet can sit below the voltage threshold the camera expects to see. Remove the battery, charge it fully in the OEM charger until the indicator shows 4.2V, then reinsert. If the camera still won't recognise it after a full charge cycle, try a hard power cycle by holding the power button for 10 seconds with the battery removed.

Shot count seems far lower than expected — the camera is dying well before a full day of shooting.

Flash recycling, continuous autofocus, and LCD playback all draw current beyond the baseline figure the spec shot count assumes. The DS-8330 spec count is typically measured with flash off and minimal playback — real-world mixed use with flash enabled pulls significantly more from the 1250mAh cell. Check that the LCD brightness isn't set to maximum and limit flash use to necessary shots. If depletion is still faster than expected after a full calibration cycle, test the cell voltage under load — a healthy cell should hold above 3.6V mid-discharge.

The DS-8330 powers on fine but the battery drains noticeably faster in cold conditions — is this a defective cell?

Cold temperatures reduce available capacity in any Li-ion cell — this is a chemistry behaviour, not a defect. Below 10°C, internal resistance rises and the cell delivers less of its rated 1250mAh before voltage drops to the camera's cutoff threshold. Keep the camera body close to your body between shots to maintain cell temperature. Once back in a warm environment, the cell recovers its normal capacity and the DS-8330 should resume normal operation.
