Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Avant S8 / S10 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BATS8)
This is a 3.7V, 1250mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the BATS8 battery in Avant S8, S8x6, S10, and S10x6 digital cameras. It slots into the same battery compartment as the original and connects via the same contact arrangement. Capacity matches the OEM spec at 4.63Wh.
- S8, S8x6, S10, S10x6 compatibility: All four models share the same battery form factor, voltage rail, and BMS communication protocol — one cell covers the entire range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the camera's onboard charger and monitored BMS acceptance, charge termination voltage, and discharge curve across multiple cycles. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags on each run.
- First-cycle charge protocol for the S8 body: Run the first full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger — not a third-party USB adapter. Some Avant camera BMS systems only map the battery-remaining indicator correctly after completing one full charge cycle through their own charge circuit.
Camera showing dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell
The Avant S8's battery gauge maps percentage thresholds against a specific discharge curve. A new third-party cell can have a slightly different internal resistance profile, which causes the indicator to read low or show empty when real charge remains. This is a calibration mismatch, not a fault with the cell. Running one or two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body lets the BMS re-map its thresholds to the new cell's actual curve.
Battery percentage jumping erratically mid-shoot
When the S8 is firing the flash repeatedly, the capacitor recharge current spikes draw hard against the cell. If the replacement cell is cold or has not yet been fully cycled, its internal resistance is higher than the BMS expects — causing the voltage to sag briefly and the indicator to jump down then recover. Let the battery reach room temperature before shooting, and complete at least one full charge cycle first. After conditioning, the indicator should stabilise above 3.6V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Avant S8 says "no battery" or flashes an error icon when I insert the new cell — is the battery dead?
This is the camera's BMS authentication check failing on first contact, not a dead cell. Insert the battery and charge it fully inside the camera body using the OEM charger before attempting to power on for shooting. One complete charge cycle through the camera's own circuit is usually enough for the BMS to accept the new cell and clear the error. If the error persists after a full charge, check that the battery contacts on both the cell and the compartment are clean and seated flush.
My shot count is much lower than I expected — the battery seems to drain fast even when I'm not shooting video.
Shot count drops quickly when the flash, continuous autofocus, and the rear LCD are all active together — the combined draw is significantly higher than the rated spec, which is measured under controlled, light-draw conditions. Flash capacitor recharge alone pulls a sustained current spike after every shot. To extend count per charge, reduce LCD brightness, switch autofocus to single-shot mode when the subject is static, and let the flash recycle fully between frames rather than shooting in rapid burst. This keeps average current draw closer to the cell's rated discharge curve.
The battery was sitting unused for a few weeks and now the camera won't turn on at all — is the cell ruined?
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per month under normal storage, but if the cell was stored near empty, it may have dropped below the BMS's minimum recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V. Place it in the camera and connect the OEM charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on; many camera charge circuits include a trickle pre-charge stage that recovers cells sitting between 2.5V and 3.0V. If the charge indicator shows nothing after 30 minutes, the cell has likely dropped below 2.5V and will need a compatible external charger with a recovery or "boost" mode to bring it back.
