Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Medion Traveler DC-8300 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (02491-0028-01)
This 3.7V, 1250mAh Li-ion cell replaces part number 02491-0028-01 in Medion's Traveler compact camera range. It fits the DC-8300, DC-8500, DC-8600, and DC-X5. Dimensions are 41.95 × 36.05 × 9.80mm — match these before ordering if you are unsure which cell your body takes.
- Traveler DC-8300, DC-8500, DC-8600, DC-X5 fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry and voltage rail, which is why one cell covers the group. The connector pinout and BMS communication protocol are identical across this series, so the cell seats and is read the same way in each body.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on camera-class draw loads. The BMS held stable voltage delivery through sustained video capture and flash recharge draws without tripping the low-voltage cutoff prematurely.
- First-install charge cycle on Traveler bodies: Insert the cell and run one full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. Some Medion Traveler bodies need this cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve accurately — skipping it can cause the battery indicator to read incorrectly from the first shot.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the DC-8300 display
The DC-8300's battery indicator maps voltage thresholds to percentage steps rather than tracking actual capacity directly. A new replacement cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the original, so the camera's lookup table can misread remaining charge — especially in the upper range. You will see large jumps, such as 80% dropping straight to 40%, in the first few cycles. After two or three full charge-discharge cycles inside the camera body, the indicator stabilises as the camera recalibrates against the real discharge profile.
Flash not fully recycling between shots on a new cell
The flash capacitor draws a sharp current spike each time it recharges after firing. At the end of a cell's usable charge, internal resistance rises and the camera body limits current delivery to protect the circuit — slowing the recycle noticeably. If this happens early in a charge cycle on a new cell, the cell likely was not fully charged before use. Charge to 4.20V in the OEM charger, confirm the charge light turns green, then retest before assuming a fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Medion Traveler DC-8300 shows a dead battery icon immediately after I insert a fully charged replacement cell — is the battery faulty?
This is almost always a BMS authentication issue, not a cell fault. The DC-8300's battery management system checks the cell on insertion; a new cell with no prior charge history in that body can fail the check and display a dead battery icon even at full charge. Place the cell in the OEM charger or insert it and charge via the camera body until the indicator shows full, then power on. One completed charge cycle from inside the body is usually enough for the camera to accept and read the cell correctly.
Shot count drops significantly in cold weather — is this normal for this replacement cell?
Yes, and it is a chemistry issue rather than a defect. Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because internal resistance increases, which causes voltage to sag faster under load. At around 0°C you can expect noticeably fewer shots compared to room temperature, and the camera may shut down before the indicator reaches zero. Keep the spare cell in an inner jacket pocket close to your body between swaps — this keeps the cell above 15°C and recovers most of the rated 1250mAh capacity.
The camera body feels warm after sustained video recording and then shuts off — is the battery overheating?
Heat during extended video comes primarily from the sensor and image processor, not the battery alone. The combined draw from continuous sensor readout, in-camera processing, and the display pushes total current well above still-photo levels, which heats both the body and the cell together. The camera's thermal protection circuit shuts the body down to prevent component damage — this is normal behaviour, not a battery fault. Let the body cool for several minutes until it returns to ambient temperature before restarting.
