Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

PROTEAR Bluetooth-Headphones Earmuff — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AB/S1)
This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original AB/S1 battery inside the PROTEAR Bluetooth earmuff headphones, including the Ear Defenders and AM/FM Radio Bluetooth variants. It restores wireless audio and radio playback when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge. Dimensions are 46.30 × 32.50 × 10.00mm — confirm your cell matches before fitting.
- Earmuff platform fit: The PROTEAR earmuff range — Bluetooth, Ear Defenders, and AM/FM Radio Bluetooth — all draw from the same 3.7V Li-Polymer cell with the AB/S1 part number. The BMS on these units expects a nominal 3.7V input; fitting a mismatched cell trips the protection circuit and the headphones will not power on.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through combined Bluetooth audio and radio draw and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without a protection fault. Charge termination occurred correctly at 4.2V with no thermal event.
- First-cycle charge on the PROTEAR earmuff: These headphones use the charge cycle to calibrate their onboard fuel gauge. Run the first full charge to 4.2V via the original cable before using Bluetooth — skipping this step causes the indicator to misread state of charge from the first session onward.
Audio cutting out mid-playback on a freshly fitted AB/S1 cell
The PROTEAR earmuff combines a Bluetooth radio and an AM/FM tuner in a compact housing. When both run simultaneously, instantaneous current draw spikes above the cell's resting output. If the replacement cell shipped at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V — the BMS interprets this spike as an undervoltage condition and shuts the output rail. Charge the cell fully to 4.2V before first use. After one complete charge cycle the BMS threshold is met under combined load and cutouts stop.
Talk time noticeably shorter than rated across the first few sessions
Li-Polymer cells in low-draw headset applications do not reach full rated capacity on cycle one. Internal resistance is slightly elevated from storage, and the electrode surface area is not fully active until the cell has been charged and discharged three to five times. Capacity steps up incrementally across those early cycles — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault with the replacement pack. Run three full charge-discharge cycles at normal listening volume before comparing against the rated 1100mAh figure.

Frequently Asked Questions
The headphones feel warm near the battery area during long listening sessions — is something wrong with the new cell?
The PROTEAR earmuff housing is compact, and sustained combined draw from the Bluetooth radio and audio amplifier generates heat with nowhere to dissipate easily. We measured surface temperature on the bench and it stayed within safe Li-Polymer operating range under continuous load. If the housing feels hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a partial connection increases resistance and localised heat. A correctly fitted AB/S1 cell running continuous audio should feel no warmer than the surrounding plastic after an hour of use.
The headphones show a full charge indicator immediately after fitting the new battery, but cut off after a very short time.
This happens when the cell arrives at storage voltage — around 3.6V — and the onboard fuel gauge reads that as near-full because it has not yet been calibrated to the new cell. The BMS then cuts the output rail as soon as real load drops the voltage below its threshold. Connect the headphones to the original charging cable and run a complete charge to 4.2V before any playback. After that first full charge cycle the fuel gauge and BMS threshold align correctly and the cutoff stops.
The headphones power on fine but Bluetooth drops and reconnects repeatedly — could this be the battery?
Yes — intermittent Bluetooth dropout under load is a voltage sag symptom, not a radio fault. The PROTEAR earmuff's Bluetooth module draws a current spike each time it re-negotiates a connection, and a cell sitting below 3.8V cannot sustain that spike without a momentary voltage dip. The BMS reacts by briefly cutting the output, which drops the Bluetooth link. Charge the AB/S1 cell fully to 4.2V; if dropout persists after a complete charge, check that the connector tabs are making clean contact with no lateral movement at the socket.
