Fits Radio Shack model 23-9096 cordless handsets, replaces OEM part 23-933.
2.4V Ni-MH pack delivers 1500mAh capacity for standard talk and standby cycles on DECT handsets.
Flat connector slides into vertical slot on handset battery compartment with single locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell in a 23-9096 base unit — BMS accepted voltage threshold on first insert without error light.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Radio Shack 23-9096 / 43-3533 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (23-933)

This is a 2.4V 1500mAh Ni-MH battery pack replacing OEM part 23-933 in Radio Shack cordless phones. It fits the 23-9096, 23-960, 43-3533, 43-3534, and eight additional handset models in this series. Voltage, connector, and cell count match the original spec exactly.

  • Multi-model fit across the 23- and 43-series handsets: Radio Shack grouped these cordless phone handsets around the same 2.4V two-cell NiMH pack and identical battery bay geometry. The connector polarity and BMS handshake threshold are uniform across the cluster, so one battery services the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack in a 23-9096 handset through charge, standby, and active talk load. The BMS accepted charge from the base station cradle from the first insertion, and voltage held steady under RF transmit load without triggering the low-battery cutoff prematurely.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing this battery, seat the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for a full 16 hours before the first use. NiMH cells shipped in partial-discharge state need a slow initial charge to reach rated 1500mAh capacity — skipping this shortens talk time noticeably for the first several cycles.

Base station showing no-charge or error light after fitting the new pack

Radio Shack DECT base stations use a voltage-sensing circuit to confirm a battery is present before starting the charge current. A new NiMH pack stored at low voltage can read below the base's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.0V — and the base reads it as an error rather than a depleted cell. Removing the handset, waiting 30 seconds, and reseating it usually clears the fault and lets the charge cycle begin. If the error persists, a short trickle from a compatible external charger to bring the pack above 2.1V resolves it.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after the battery swap

NiMH cells that haven't completed their first full conditioning cycle show a voltage sag under the current draw of the RF transmit circuit. When voltage sags, the DECT radio reduces transmit power to stay within operating limits — and range falls with it. This is not a fault in the battery; it corrects itself after three to five full charge-and-use cycles. After conditioning, check that the replacement pack rests at 2.4V after a full charge to confirm the cells have reached rated capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Radio Shack cordless handset won't pair with the base after I put in the new battery — what happened?

Removing power from a DECT handset completely clears the pairing stored in memory on some Radio Shack models, including units in the 23- and 43-series. The handset needs to re-register with the base from scratch. Press and hold the handset's Find/Page button for five seconds while the handset is off the base, then follow the registration sequence in your base station manual — most units complete re-pairing in under two minutes.

Talk time is noticeably shorter than the original battery even after a full overnight charge — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. NiMH cells leave storage partially discharged, and the first one or two charge cycles deliver below rated capacity — this is normal cell chemistry, not a defect. Run three to five complete cycles: charge fully in the base, use the handset until the low-battery tone sounds, then charge again overnight each time. By cycle four or five, capacity stabilises at the rated 1500mAh and talk time matches what the original pack delivered when new.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the cradle, the charge contacts don't make reliable connection and the base never delivers charge current — the handset runs entirely on battery in standby. Lift the handset out, check the charge contacts on both the handset and cradle for debris or oxidation, then reseat the handset firmly until it sits flush. Confirm the base charge indicator light activates within 10 seconds of reseating.
