Fits Redmi 8, 8A, and M1908C3IE/IC models replacing OEM battery BN51.
Voltage is 3.85V; capacity is 4900mAh—this restores full charge cycles on a degraded cell.
Connector is standard spring-contact; tab orientation matches original without modification or force.
We bench-tested this cell on a Redmi 8 motherboard; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with clean voltage handshake.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Redmi 8 Series — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BN51)

The BN51 is the OEM-spec Li-Polymer cell for the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A smartphones. It runs at 3.85V and holds 4900mAh (18.87Wh). Compatible models include M1908C3IE, M1908C3IC, and over a dozen regional variants that share the same connector, BMS handshake, and physical footprint.

  • Redmi 8 and 8A shared platform: Both models draw from the same hardware platform — identical voltage rail, the same 5-pin connector, and a shared BMS communication protocol. One cell covers both devices without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a Redmi 8 unit and monitored BMS handshake, charge acceptance at 10W, and cutoff behaviour at low state-of-charge. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion and reported capacity within normal range after one full cycle.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This allows the fuel gauge IC to map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes amperage into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity defect. The fuel gauge IC on the Redmi 8 was calibrated against the discharge curve of the original, aged cell — not a fresh 4900mAh one. When the new cell's voltage drops steeply under modem or display load at lower state-of-charge, the IC misreads it as critically low and triggers shutdown. One full discharge down to automatic cutoff, followed by an uninterrupted full charge, resets the coulomb counter and eliminates most unexpected shutdowns.

Fast charging not working on the first cycle after replacement

The Redmi 8 uses a proprietary charge negotiation step before stepping up to 10W. On a freshly installed cell, the charge IC sometimes defaults to standard 5W on the first cycle while it validates the new BMS. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Unplug and reconnect the charger after the phone has been on for two minutes — the charge IC typically renegotiates on the second handshake. Confirm fast charge is active by checking Settings → Battery → show charging speed, which should read above 1.0A at 5V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Redmi 8 keeps shutting off around 25% even though the new battery shows plenty of charge — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC is still running calculations based on the old cell's discharge curve. A fresh 4900mAh cell has a steeper voltage drop near the bottom of its range than a worn cell, so the IC triggers shutdown earlier than it should. Run one full discharge to automatic cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the phone. After that single cycle the coulomb counter recalibrates and the shutdowns should stop.

The battery percentage on my Redmi 8 is jumping around erratically after I fitted the new BN51 — is the cell faulty?

It's not a faulty cell — it's the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar discharge curve. The IC uses stored historical data from the old cell to estimate state-of-charge, and that data no longer matches the new cell's behaviour. Percentage readings settle after one or two full discharge-charge cycles as the IC builds a fresh model of the cell's voltage-to-capacity relationship. Do not interrupt the first charge cycle and keep the phone off a fast charger until the percentage stabilises.

My Redmi 8 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it — how do I recover it?

Li-Polymer cells in storage self-discharge over time, and if the BN51 dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS will have entered lockout mode and the phone will not respond to the power button. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle-charge the cell out of lockout at a low current before allowing normal charging to resume. If the battery icon appears within that window, the cell has recovered; let it charge fully to 3.85V before booting the phone.
