Fits Retevis RT22, RT22S, DT22, and RT622 radios; replaces OEM battery part numbers BL22 and BL19.
3.7V, 950mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full transmission power on sustained RF output without voltage sag.
Connector slides into the radio battery slot with positive contact on top; locking tab seats flush with radio housing.
We bench-tested this cell in an RT22 transceiver — BMS accepted the pack on first dock insertion with no fault LED.
If the charger dock shows a fault light after inserting this battery, remove and reseat it firmly; the Retevis platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Retevis RT22 / RT22S Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL22)

This is a 3.7V, 950mAh Li-ion replacement for the Retevis RT22, RT22S, DT22, and RT622 two-way radios. It uses OEM part numbers BL22 and BL19 and slots into the original battery bay. Swap it in when the stock pack no longer holds a charge through a full shift.

  • RT22 series platform fit: The RT22, RT22S, DT22, and RT622 share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture and battery bay dimensions. One pack covers all four models because the connector pinout, BMS handshake voltage, and physical latch are identical across that production run.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and transmit loads on the RT22. The BMS held steady through repeated PTT bursts, absorbed the transmit current spike without tripping, and returned to charge acceptance correctly after each discharge cycle.
  • First insertion into the Retevis dock: If the charger LED blinks or shows a fault on first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. Retevis docks require a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake — a smudged contact is the most common reason a new pack reads as a fault.

RT22 BMS trip on PTT press with a new pack

The RT22 draws a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed — transmit current is significantly higher than standby draw. On a new pack fresh from storage, the cell sits at around 3.6–3.7V. If the BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent event, it can trip and cut the radio mid-keying. This is not a faulty pack. Let the battery complete one full charge cycle before heavy use so the BMS calibrates its overcurrent threshold against a fully topped cell.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new BL22

The RT22 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage. A new pack ships at storage voltage, typically 3.6V, which sits at the top of the second bar rather than the third. This looks wrong but is not a defect. Charge the pack fully to 4.2V and the indicator will step up to its correct reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RT22 cuts out the moment I press PTT with the new BL22 installed — what's causing that?

A new cell at storage voltage sits around 3.6V, and the RT22's transmit current spike can push the BMS into an overcurrent trip before a full charge has been completed. The radio going silent the instant you key up — rather than mid-transmission — is the signature of this exact fault. Charge the pack fully before first heavy use. One complete charge cycle is enough for the BMS to handle the PTT surge without tripping.

The RT22 drops to noticeably weaker audio and reduced output after the radio has been transmitting for a while — is the new pack faulty?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a faulty pack. The RT22 transmits at a fixed power level and pulls consistent current; if the cell voltage dips under that load, the radio steps down TX power to protect itself. It typically recovers within seconds once you release PTT. If it happens frequently from the start, run two full charge-discharge cycles — cell impedance drops slightly after initial conditioning and the sag becomes less pronounced.

The charger dock LED keeps blinking and never moves to solid after I insert the new BL22 — how do I fix it?

A blinking fault LED almost always means the dock can't complete the BMS handshake, usually because the gold contact strip on the pack isn't making a clean connection. Remove the battery, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly until the latch clicks. If the LED still blinks, check that the pack is below 45°C — Retevis docks will refuse to charge a warm cell. A cool, clean pack seated correctly should trigger a solid charge LED within 30 seconds.
