Fits RP-Technik 20109 LEX emergency lighting unit, replaces OEM part NH120 and NIMH1208P.
12V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell delivers 8.4Wh — adequate for full-duration emergency evacuation lighting on mains failure.
Connector slides into the vertical slot with locking tab; contact surfaces face forward into the charge assembly.
We bench-tested this cell in a 20109 LEX fitter at 12.6V initial float; BMS accepted charge within two hours.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation — hold the test button for rated duration so the charge controller registers the new cell capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RP-Technik 20109 LEX — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NH120)

This is a 12V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for the RP-Technik 20109 LEX emergency lighting unit. It slots into the fitting to restore backup illumination during mains failure or evacuation events. Sourced to match the original NH120 specification, including the NIMH1208P reference used in some service manuals.

  • 20109 LEX compatibility: The 20109 LEX charge controller runs a float voltage tuned for Ni-MH chemistry at this cell count. Swapping to a different chemistry or voltage rating trips the charge fault circuit. This cell matches the voltage rail and BMS handshake the fitting expects.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through a full charge cycle and a duration load test. The charge controller accepted the cell without fault, and the BMS held voltage under the rated emergency load without dropping into cutoff prematurely.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell. This allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A fresh Ni-MH cell from storage has not yet been conditioned to its rated capacity. The charge controller on the 20109 LEX begins float charging immediately on installation, but the cell needs one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach full capacity. Running the duration test before that cycle completes will produce a shorter-than-rated output and a fail result. Fit the battery, let it charge for at least 24 hours, then run the full test — the cell should hold voltage above 10.8V through the rated period.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

The 20109 LEX charge controller checks cell voltage before switching from fault to charge mode. A cell that has sat in storage may present a resting voltage outside the controller's float acceptance window, keeping the indicator red. This is not a faulty cell — it means the controller has not yet begun bulk charging. Remove the battery, wait 60 seconds, refit it firmly, and confirm the connector is fully seated. The indicator should shift to amber or green within a few minutes as the controller detects a valid cell voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 20109 LEX passed its monthly test last month but failed the full duration test this week — same battery, no warning. What changed?

A Ni-MH cell can pass a short function test while still being too degraded to sustain load for the full rated duration. The monthly press-test only confirms the lamp fires; it does not draw the cell down far enough to expose capacity loss. Check the resting voltage — if it reads below 12V after a full 24-hour charge, the cell has lost enough capacity to fail a duration test even though function tests looked fine. Replace the cell and run a full conditioning cycle before logging the result.

The light dims noticeably after a few minutes during the test — it doesn't cut out, just fades. What's causing that?

Dimming under sustained load on a new cell usually means the cell was not fully charged before the test was run. Ni-MH cells arrive from storage with a partial state of charge, and the 20109 LEX charge controller needs a full charge cycle before the cell can deliver rated current without voltage sag. This is different from a failed duration test — the cell is functional, just not conditioned. Charge for a full 24 hours, then rerun the test.

The fitting is showing a fault LED even though the new battery is installed correctly and the voltage checks out. How do I clear it?

Some RP-Technik fittings latch a fault condition in the charge controller and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is fitted. The controller needs a manual reset. Disconnect the battery, isolate the fitting from mains for at least 30 seconds, then restore mains before reconnecting the battery. If the fault LED persists after the controller restarts, confirm the cell voltage is between 12V and 14.4V at rest — a cell reading outside that range will hold the fault state.
