Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kaufel 850.0060 AA/4 — 4.8V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (BGN800-4DWP-PRB830EC)

This is a 4.8V, 800mAh Ni-Cd replacement battery for the Kaufel 850.0060 AA/4 emergency lighting unit. It replaces OEM part BGN800-4DWP-PRB830EC directly. The cell pack restores the unit's ability to activate on mains failure and sustain illumination through the rated test duration.

  • 850.0060 AA/4 fitment: The 850.0060 AA/4 uses a 4-cell Ni-Cd pack at 4.8V nominal to match the charge controller's float voltage and connector pinout. Swapping chemistry or voltage trips the charge circuit and the fitting logs a fault.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through a full charge and load test. The BMS accepted charge within spec, held voltage under emergency load, and showed no premature cutoff across the test window.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting this battery, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-Cd pack does not always deliver its full rated capacity on the first test. Storage time partially depletes the cells, and the charge controller needs at least one complete charge cycle to top the pack to true capacity. If the fitting cuts out before the required duration, it does not mean the battery is faulty. Run the fitting on charge for a minimum of 24 hours, then repeat the duration test — the pack should hold load through the full rated period at that point.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting a new battery

Some 850.0060 AA/4 fittings will hold a red or fault LED even after a confirmed good installation. This happens when the new cell arrives from storage at a voltage outside the charge controller's float acceptance window. The controller sees an out-of-range voltage and stays in fault mode rather than switching to trickle charge. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle — the cell voltage will climb into the acceptance band and the indicator should shift to green. If it does not clear after 24 hours, check the connector seating and confirm cell polarity against the original orientation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kaufel 850.0060 AA/4 dims noticeably within the first few minutes of a test — is the new battery at fault?

The cell is almost certainly undercharged, not faulty. Ni-Cd packs ship in a partially discharged state, and a short pre-test charge period is not enough to reach rated capacity. Allow a full 24-hour conditioning charge before running the duration test. After one complete cycle, the pack should sustain full brightness through the entire test window.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new battery and confirmed the connector is seated correctly — what resets it?

On the 850.0060 AA/4, the charge controller does not auto-clear a fault LED when cell voltage is still outside the float acceptance window. Leave the unit on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle. Once the pack voltage rises into the acceptance band, the controller will exit fault mode. If the LED remains after 24 hours, power-cycle the fitting by removing mains supply for 30 seconds and then restoring it.

The old battery pack was swollen and had been in the fitting for several years — is there a risk the charge circuit damaged it?

Yes — continuous trickle charge at elevated fitting temperatures over years can cause overcharge damage in Ni-Cd cells, which presents as swelling and reduced capacity. The charge circuit itself is usually not the cause; heat trapped inside the fitting keeps cell temperature above safe trickle-charge thresholds. Before fitting the replacement, check the fitting's internal temperature with the cover on — if it feels hot to the touch after a few minutes on mains, ensure ventilation slots are unblocked before the new pack is installed.
