Phone feels warm near the battery bay during the first charge

A freshly manufactured cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. During the first few charge cycles, that impedance causes the cell to dissipate slightly more energy as heat as charge current flows in. This is normal and resolves as the cell's impedance drops over the first three to five cycles.
