Fits Sena SMH-5 wireless motorcycle intercom headset, replaces OEM battery part number ICP40/25/40P.
3.7V 350mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers full talk time and standby duration on the intercom system.
Connector is a two-pin JST plug with keyed polarization; slides into the battery slot without force.
We bench-tested this cell in the SMH-5 charging cradle; BMS handshake completed on first insertion, no fault codes.
Charge the headset in the base station for one full cycle before taking a call — the base needs to log the new cell before talk-time accuracy updates.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sena SMH-5 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ICP40/25/40P)

This is a 3.7V 350mAh lithium-polymer cell for the Sena SMH-5 Bluetooth motorcycle intercom headset. It replaces OEM part ICP40/25/40P and fits directly into the SMH-5 housing. Voltage and physical dimensions match the original: 41.30 × 24.90 × 3.98mm.

  • SMH-5 platform fit: The SMH-5 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-Po pack with a compact flat form factor to fit inside the clamp-mount unit. This cell matches the OEM footprint and connector orientation so the BMS handshake completes correctly on first charge.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the SMH-5 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new pack without error, reached a full 4.2V charge termination, and discharged cleanly across the combined Bluetooth radio and audio draw.
  • First-charge protocol for the SMH-5: Seat the headset in its mount cradle and run a full charge cycle before pairing or taking calls. The SMH-5 firmware calculates talk-time estimates from the first logged charge cycle — skipping this step causes the battery indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.

Why the SMH-5 cuts out mid-call on a degraded cell

The SMH-5 draws current from two loads at once — the Bluetooth radio and the audio amplifier. Under that combined draw, a worn cell sees a sharper voltage sag than either load alone would cause. When cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold, the unit shuts off even if the indicator still showed charge. A fresh 350mAh cell at full 4.2V holds enough headroom to handle the combined draw without triggering the cutoff.

Talk time shorter than expected on the first few charges

A new Li-Po cell does not reach its rated capacity on the first cycle. Usable capacity typically increases over three to five full charge-discharge cycles as the electrolyte fully wets the electrode surfaces. If talk time feels short after the first charge, that is expected behaviour — not a fault. Run three complete cycles from full charge to automatic shutoff and capacity will stabilise near the rated 350mAh.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SMH-5 shuts off mid-conversation even though the battery indicator showed it still had charge — what's causing that?

The SMH-5 BMS reads voltage, not remaining capacity directly. When the Bluetooth radio and audio amp draw current simultaneously, voltage sags faster than the indicator can track, and the BMS trips the cutoff at roughly 3.0V even if the indicator wasn't yet flashing. A cell that's degraded from repeated shallow cycles can't hold voltage under that combined load. Replace the cell and run a full charge to 4.2V before your first call.

The headset is sitting in the cradle but the base shows a charging error and never completes the charge on the new battery — how do I fix that?

This happens when the BMS in the new cell hasn't completed its handshake with the SMH-5 charge circuit. Remove the headset from the cradle, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — the charge pins need clean contact to initiate the handshake. If the error persists, check that the cradle pins are clean and free of corrosion, then reseat again. The charge circuit should accept the pack and begin drawing current within 30 seconds of correct contact.

The SMH-5 feels noticeably warm on the side of my helmet during long rides — is that normal with a new cell?

Some warmth is normal. The SMH-5 housing is small, so heat from the combined Bluetooth radio and audio draw has limited surface area to dissipate. A new cell running at full capacity actually generates slightly more heat than a degraded one because it's delivering more current. If the unit becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the cell is seated flush with no gap — a partially seated cell increases internal resistance and heat. Normal operating temperature for the housing sits well below 45°C.
