Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000 / SL-C3000 / SL-C3100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EA-BL08)
The EA-BL08 is a 3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-ion cell for the Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000, SL-C3000, and SL-C3100 handheld PDAs. These clamshell pocket PCs share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol across the three models. This replacement restores full power to aging units where the original cell has lost capacity or no longer holds a charge.
- SL-C1000, SL-C3000, and SL-C3100 compatibility: All three Zaurus models use the same 3.7V rail, physical bay dimensions, and four-pin connector with integrated thermistor — the BMS reads the same NTC resistance profile across every unit we have tested, so one cell covers the full trio.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Zaurus SL-C3100 and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without error flags, the charge circuit reached full voltage cutoff correctly, and the SRAM backup rail stayed live throughout the transition.
- Sync before you swap: The Zaurus stores open files, application state, and unsaved data in volatile SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Remove the battery without first syncing to a host PC via USB or cradle and that data is gone. Run a full sync and confirm it completed before pulling the old cell.
Zaurus SL-C3000 not booting after battery installation
The SL-C3000 boot sequence checks the battery voltage before releasing the CPU from reset. A new cell that has self-discharged in storage can sit below the minimum threshold — typically around 3.0V — and the device will show nothing on screen or flash the LED once and stop. This is not a fault with the battery or the device. Connect to the AC adapter and allow the cell to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the voltage clears the boot threshold, the device starts normally.
Battery life noticeably shorter than expected during wireless sync sessions
The Zaurus wireless LAN card and the CF slot draw significantly more current than the CPU alone at idle — the radio can pull three to four times the standby draw when actively transmitting. If the replacement cell was not fully charged before use, this elevated draw accelerates voltage sag and the BMS may trip the low-voltage cutoff earlier than expected. Charge to full before any wireless session and check that the battery indicator reads maximum before starting a sync. A resting open-circuit voltage of 4.1V to 4.2V confirms a full charge on a healthy 3.7V Li-ion cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Zaurus SL-C1000 lost all my open documents and settings when I swapped the battery — is the replacement faulty?
The replacement is not at fault. The Zaurus keeps open files, running application state, and user settings in volatile SRAM that is powered entirely by the main battery — pull the cell and that memory clears instantly. The fix is to run a full USB or cradle sync to your host PC before removing the old battery, confirm the sync completed, then swap the cell. Any data not written to the internal flash or memory card before the swap is unrecoverable.
The SL-C3100 screen stays black after fitting the new battery — nothing happens when I press the power button.
A new cell that has sat in storage often measures below 3.0V — the SL-C3100 checks voltage before releasing the CPU from reset, so a depleted cell produces no display output at all. Connect the AC adapter without pressing the power button and leave it for 30 to 45 minutes. Once the cell charges above the boot threshold, press power and the device will start normally. Do not mistake this for a dead device or a faulty battery.
After fitting the EA-BL08, the Zaurus wireless LAN card keeps dropping its connection mid-sync — this didn't happen with the old battery.
The wireless card is voltage-sensitive — when the cell is not fully charged, the radio transmit spikes cause voltage sag that the card interprets as a power fault and it drops the connection. This happens most often when the replacement was installed and used immediately without a full charge cycle first. Charge the new cell completely before attempting any wireless sync session. Confirm the battery indicator is at maximum and check that resting open-circuit voltage reads between 4.1V and 4.2V before starting the transfer.
