Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Skil PWRCORE 20 Impact Driver — 20V Li-ion 4.0Ah Replacement Battery (BY519702)
This 20V 4000mAh Li-ion pack replaces the original battery on the Skil PWRCORE 20 platform, including the ID572701, DL527501, and 0.6cm Hex Cordless Impact Driver. It runs at 20V nominal with 80Wh total capacity. Fits the same connector and BMS handshake as the factory pack across the PWRCORE 20 tool line.
- PWRCORE 20 platform compatibility: All tools in the Skil PWRCORE 20 line share the same 20V battery interface, connector housing, and BMS communication protocol. One pack works across drills, drivers, and saws on that rail without adapter hardware.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated trigger-pull cycles on a PWRCORE 20 impact driver. The BMS handled motor-start inrush current without tripping overcurrent protection, and cell temperature stayed within safe limits through sustained fastener-driving sequences.
- Break-in load protocol: On first use, run the impact driver at half torque for two full discharge-charge cycles before hitting maximum torque applications. This gives the BMS time to profile the motor's inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you load it hard.
BMS Cutoff on Trigger-Pull Inrush in the PWRCORE 20 Impact Driver
Impact drivers pull a sharp current spike the moment the trigger engages — the motor needs several times its running current to break static resistance and start spinning. If the BMS overcurrent threshold is set conservatively or the cells are cold, that inrush spike can trip protection before the motor even reaches speed. A new or cold pack is most vulnerable because cell impedance is elevated and the BMS has no learned baseline for this motor's start signature. Letting the pack warm to room temperature before use and running a few light-load cycles first keeps the BMS from misreading a normal start event as a fault.
Charger Blinks Red and Refuses to Charge After Pack Sat in Storage
Li-ion cells left uncharged for several months can drop below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. The Skil charger reads that low-voltage state as a damaged or incompatible pack and signals a fault before attempting a charge cycle. To recover the pack, some chargers have a "boost" or "wake" mode that trickle-charges at a low rate until cells climb back above the acceptance threshold. If your charger lacks that mode, a compatible Li-ion charger with a manual recovery function can bring cell voltage back up to 3.0V per cell, at which point the Skil charger will accept the pack normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Skil PWRCORE 20 impact driver cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — is the battery faulty?
That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The motor-start inrush current spike on an impact driver can exceed the BMS protection threshold, especially when the pack is cold or new. Warm the battery to room temperature and run two lighter-load cycles first so the BMS can profile the inrush draw before you apply full torque. If the cutout persists at room temperature after break-in, check that the battery terminal contacts are clean and seated fully — high contact resistance inflates the apparent current draw the BMS sees.
The impact driver runs but bogs badly under load — new battery, same issue. What's happening?
Voltage sag under load is usually a contact resistance problem, not a cell failure. Debris or oxidation on the battery rail contacts creates resistance that drops the voltage the tool sees during high-draw fastening cycles. Remove the pack, inspect the gold contact pads on both the battery and tool, and clean them with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. After cleaning, recheck under load — a healthy 20V pack should hold above 18V at the tool terminals during sustained driving.
This battery charges fine indoors but loses power fast when I'm working outside in winter — is it defective?
It's not defective — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces how much current the cells can deliver before voltage sags. The pack holds its rated 4000mAh capacity at room temperature but delivers noticeably less usable energy when cold. Keep the battery in a jacket pocket or a heated bag between uses rather than leaving it on the tool in freezing air. Once the pack warms back above 10°C, capacity returns to normal without any reset needed.
