Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Skyroam Gmate Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-4BS)
This is a 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Skyroam Gmate and Gmate Plus mobile hotspot. Part number BL-4BS. It fits directly into both models and restores power to the hotspot when the original cell has degraded or failed.
- Gmate and Gmate Plus compatibility: Both models use the same BL-4BS cell, voltage rail, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake is identical across both variants, so this single cell covers the full Gmate line without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under combined WiFi broadcast and LTE modem load — the conditions that draw the most current. The BMS held stable voltage throughout and did not trip on the startup surge when the cellular radio initialised.
- Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the hotspot on a hard, flat surface during long sessions. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio runs at maximum transmit power. That heat accumulates inside the casing and stresses the cell directly — a clear surface lets it dissipate.
Hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery
The Gmate runs two radios simultaneously — the LTE modem and the WiFi access point. When multiple devices are connected and the cellular signal is weak, both radios operate at peak draw at the same time. This creates a combined current spike that can pull the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold momentarily. The result is a brief power interruption that drops all connected clients. Reducing the number of active devices or moving closer to a cellular tower lowers the combined draw and stabilises the voltage.
Hotspot won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Gmate sat unused long enough, the cell voltage can drop below the minimum boot threshold — typically around 3.0V — and the device will show no response when you press the power button. Connect the hotspot to a charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power it on. If the charge LED does not activate, the cell may have dropped below the BMS recovery floor; in that case, disconnect and reconnect the charger to trigger a re-initialisation cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Skyroam Gmate battery drains way faster than it used to — even with only two devices connected. What's causing that?
The most common cause is poor cellular signal in your location. When the LTE signal is weak, the modem increases transmit power automatically to maintain the connection, which pulls significantly more current from the 700mAh cell than normal operation. Check the signal indicator on the hotspot — if it shows one or two bars, move to a window or a higher floor. Stronger signal drops the modem's transmit power and cuts the drain noticeably.
The Gmate feels warm to the touch during a long session — is that a problem for the new battery?
Heat is the main factor that accelerates capacity loss in Li-ion cells at this size. The Gmate generates heat from the cellular radio, the WiFi chip, and the battery itself all in one small enclosure. Set the device on a hard, open surface rather than a pocket, bag, or padded mat — anything that traps the heat speeds up cell degradation. If the device becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold, the internal temperature is likely high enough to affect the cell; disconnect users and let it cool to ambient before continuing the session.
After I replaced the battery, the hotspot powers on fine but drops all connected devices every few minutes. The old battery never did this — why is the new one cutting out?
A new cell with a fresh BMS can be more aggressive about voltage cutoff than an aged cell that has lost its protection sensitivity. Under peak load — full client connections combined with a weak LTE signal — the instantaneous current draw can pull the cell voltage to the BMS trip point, causing a momentary shutdown that reconnects within seconds. This is a load management issue, not a faulty battery. Reduce active connected devices to two or fewer and confirm you have at least three signal bars; this keeps combined radio draw below the threshold that triggers the cutoff.
