This is a 3.7V, 750mAh lithium-polymer battery replacing part number UP553048-A6H in the Sony Clie PEG-TJ27 and PEG-TJ37 handheld PDAs. Both devices use the same cell format, connector, and BMS handshake. Dimensions are 48.79 × 29.00 × 4.95mm — measure your original before fitting.

  • PEG-TJ27 and PEG-TJ37 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay geometry, 3.7V supply rail, and UP553048-A6H part number. The BMS protection thresholds are identical, so one cell fits both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, idle, and active-display draws on a TJ-series unit. The BMS held low-voltage cutoff correctly and recovered from a depleted state without tripping the protection circuit.
  • Sync before you swap: The Clie PEG-TJ27 stores open application data and user state in SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Do a full HotSync to your host computer before removing the cell — anything not synced will be gone the moment power drops.

Why the Clie PEG-TJ27 won't boot after a fresh battery install

Li-polymer cells ship in storage state, typically around 3.0–3.2V. The TJ27 boot sequence checks the supply rail before loading the OS, and a cell below threshold causes the device to appear completely dead. This is not a fault with the battery or the PDA. Connect the device to its charger for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button, then attempt the boot with the charger still attached.

Calendar and contacts wiped after battery replacement

The TJ27 keeps its PIM data — contacts, calendar, memos — in volatile SRAM, not flash. The moment the main battery is disconnected and any residual capacitor charge drains, that memory clears. A completed HotSync writes everything to the desktop conduit before the swap. After fitting the new cell and booting, run HotSync again to restore all records to the device.

My Clie TJ27 shows a full charge icon but the screen goes blank after a few minutes of use — is the new battery faulty?

This points to a worn protection circuit or a cell that reports state-of-charge incorrectly during light load but sags under display backlight draw. We saw this on the bench when a cell was cycled below 3.0V repeatedly before replacement — the fuel gauge reading detaches from actual capacity. Let the device charge uninterrupted to 4.2V on a known-good USB source, then run a full discharge cycle with the backlight on maximum to recalibrate. If the behaviour persists after one full cycle, the issue is in the charge controller on the board, not the cell.

I replaced the battery and did a HotSync, but my TJ27 is running noticeably shorter between charges than it used to — what's drawing it down?

The Bluetooth radio and backlit display on the TJ-series draw far more current than standby or basic scheduling use. A 750mAh cell at 3.7V gives 2.78Wh total — wireless sync and sustained backlight can pull that down quickly. Check whether the Bluetooth stack is set to stay active after a sync session, as the TJ27 does not always kill the radio automatically. Turn Bluetooth off in the Preferences panel when not actively syncing and watch whether the discharge rate drops.

After swapping the battery my TJ37 powers on but immediately resets in a loop — what's happening?

A reset loop on first boot with a new cell almost always means the supply voltage is too low for the OS to complete its initialisation sequence. The TJ37 and TJ27 share the same boot voltage threshold, and a storage-state cell at 3.0–3.2V can't sustain the current spike the processor needs during kernel load. Plug into the charger and leave it for 45 minutes before attempting to power on. Boot with the charger connected until the device reaches the main menu and stabilises.
