Fits Sony DualShock 3 wireless controllers; replaces OEM battery LIP1359.
This 3.7V 570mAh cell restores full wireless play time on PS3 gamepads that no longer hold charge.
Connector slides into the battery slot horizontally; no locking tab — friction fit seats flush against the contact points.
We tested the LIP1359 BMS on first insertion into a CECHZC2E unit; the controller accepted the cell without a charge-gate fault and drew current cleanly under wireless plus rumble load.
On first use after installing, run one complete wireless play session to full automatic cutoff before recharging — the PS3 fuel gauge calibrates against the first full discharge cycle to set the empty reference point.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony DualShock 3 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LIP1359)

The LIP1359 is the internal cell that powers Sony's DualShock 3 wireless controller. This replacement fits the CECHZC2E, CECHZC2H, and the full DualShock 3 Wireless Controller lineup. It runs at 3.7V with 570mAh (2.11Wh) capacity — matching the original Sony specification.

  • CECHZC2 series compatibility: Every CECHZC2 variant shares the same PCB layout, connector pinout, and charge IC handshake. The LIP1359 slots directly into that platform without a BMS mismatch — the charge controller sees the same cell signature it expects.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the PS3's onboard charge IC under simultaneous wireless and rumble load. The BMS held the 4.2V charge ceiling cleanly with no premature cutoff or thermal flag.
  • Fuel gauge reset after install: After fitting a new cell, run one full wireless play session to automatic controller shutdown — don't plug in early. The PS3 fuel gauge IC calibrates its empty reference point against that first complete discharge cycle. Skipping it leaves the capacity readout inaccurate for weeks.

Why the DualShock 3 drops connection before the battery indicator hits empty

The DualShock 3 transmits Bluetooth and drives rumble motors simultaneously. That combined draw spikes current demand in short bursts. When the cell is aged or a new cell hasn't completed its first conditioning cycle, internal resistance rises enough that voltage sags below the Bluetooth radio's operating floor — the radio cuts out before the fuel gauge registers low. The fix is completing three to five full charge-discharge cycles, which lowers internal resistance and stabilises voltage under load.

Battery indicator jumping between bars after a cell swap

The PS3's fuel gauge IC tracks capacity using a stored discharge curve from the previous cell. After a swap, that curve no longer matches the new cell's characteristics, so the readout jumps erratically. This is a software calibration issue, not a cell defect. Let the controller discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to full — the IC re-anchors both the empty and full reference points. After one complete cycle the bar display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DualShock 3 disconnects mid-game but the battery indicator still shows two or three bars — is the new cell faulty?

This is a voltage sag issue, not a faulty cell. The combined Bluetooth transmission and rumble motor draw spikes current in short bursts, and a new cell in its first few cycles has slightly elevated internal resistance — enough to dip below the radio's operating voltage without the fuel gauge catching it. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and the sag drops. If disconnects persist after five cycles, check that the connector is fully seated on the PCB.

The battery bars jump around after I fitted the replacement — it shows full, then drops to one bar, then jumps back up.

The PS3 fuel gauge IC is comparing the new cell's discharge curve against the map it built for the old cell. The data doesn't match, so the readout bounces. This clears itself after one properly completed cycle: play to automatic controller shutdown without plugging in early, then charge to 100% uninterrupted. After that single cycle, the IC resets both its empty and full reference points to the new cell and the display steadies.

The controller feels like it's not lasting as long as it used to even with the new battery fitted — only had it a few days.

New Li-ion cells don't reach rated capacity straight out of the box. The electrolyte and electrode surfaces need three to five full charge-discharge cycles to condition properly — 570mAh is the figure after conditioning, not on day one. Don't top-up charge between sessions during this period; let the controller run to automatic cutoff each time, then charge fully. Play time should increase noticeably by the third or fourth cycle.
