Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony NV-U70 / NV-U70T — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1-756-627-11)
This 3.7V 2200mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Sony NV-U70 and NV-U70T portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM dimensions (65.34 × 20.09 × 18.24mm) and connector, so the cell seats and latches without modification. Voltage and capacity figures match the 1-756-627-11 / 2-665-068-11 / 1036A spec.
- NV-U70 and NV-U70T compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and charge management circuit. The battery houses no BMS handshake chip — charging is handled entirely by the navigator's internal charge controller, so cell voltage and capacity are the only variables that matter for fit.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the NV-U70's charge circuit and confirmed the unit reached a full 4.20V charge termination with no error flags. Discharge tracking held consistent across three cycles with no unexpected cutoff events.
- First-use satellite acquisition: After fitting this cell, power the navigator on outdoors before driving. The GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite fix takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts after a normal shutdown resolve in under a minute. Do not begin navigation immediately after swapping the battery indoors.
GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the NV-U70
The NV-U70 reduces receiver sensitivity when battery voltage falls below roughly 3.5V. At that threshold, the unit pulls less current from the GPS receiver module to protect the remaining charge. The result is weaker satellite signal tracking, wider position error circles, and occasional route recalculation on roads you are already on. Keeping the cell above 3.6V during active navigation maintains full receiver sensitivity.
NV-U70 shutting off without low-battery warning
After a battery swap, the fuel gauge on the NV-U70 is uncalibrated — the unit has no memory of the new cell's discharge curve. The on-screen battery indicator can read 30–40% remaining and still trigger a hard cutoff seconds later because the voltage collapsed faster than the indicator predicted. This is most common in the first two charge-discharge cycles after fitting a new cell. Run two full charge-to-cutoff cycles and the indicator will track the actual voltage slope accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My NV-U70 saved routes and favourites disappeared after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes, and it is specific to how the NV-U70 stores certain data. Some route and POI data sits in battery-backed volatile RAM, and a full power removal wipes it. Saved destinations stored to internal flash memory survive the swap, but anything held only in RAM — recent destinations, active routes — does not. Before swapping, export or note any routes you need using the device's "My Favourites" export function to an SD card.
The NV-U70 took over eight minutes to find a satellite signal after the battery swap — is the GPS unit damaged?
No — this is a normal cold start, not a fault. The GPS receiver lost its last known position and almanac data when power was cut, so it has to download fresh satellite data from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Stand outside with the unit stationary until the position icon stops pulsing, then proceed — subsequent starts after a normal shutdown will lock in under 60 seconds.
The NV-U70 battery drains noticeably faster when I am actively navigating compared to when it is just sitting idle — what is causing that?
Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, the display backlight, and the audio output simultaneously. The display backlight alone is the largest draw — the NV-U70's screen at full brightness accounts for a significant share of total current consumption. Dropping backlight brightness one or two steps from maximum in the display settings reduces draw noticeably during long trips. If drain still seems excessive, check that the screen auto-dim setting is enabled so the backlight drops when the unit is stationary.
