Fits Southern S730 handheld barcode scanner; replaces OEM battery for S730 model.
7.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sufficient capacity for full-shift warehouse scanning and wireless transmission cycles.
Connector seats vertically into scanner battery slot with single mechanical locking tab; ensure proper orientation before insertion.
We bench-tested this cell on an S730 cradle — BMS accepted dock charging without fault codes and held stable voltage under scan-trigger current spikes.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Southern S730 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 7.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion battery for the Southern S730 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the S730 directly and matches the original pack's voltage and connector configuration. Use it in retail, warehouse, or inventory environments where the S730 is in daily rotation.

  • S730 platform fit: The S730 uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack with a BMS that monitors cell balance and current draw during both scan bursts and wireless polling. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector, so the scanner's power management system recognises the pack without reconfiguration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and wireless radio load sequences. The BMS handled combined inrush from the imager and radio without tripping, and cell voltage held steady across the discharge curve.
  • First-shift charging: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before putting it into pick-and-pack. Scan-trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

A charging error on a new pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a fault with the battery itself. Dock contacts on high-use cradles accumulate oxidation and debris that interrupt the charge handshake. Remove the scanner, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. If the error clears, the pack was fine — the dock needed cleaning.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The S730 draws simultaneously from the imager and the wireless radio during a fast scan sequence. When a degraded or deeply discharged battery can't sustain that combined current, pack voltage sags below the radio module's minimum and the connection drops. This isn't a software or pairing fault — it's a voltage supply problem. Charge the new pack fully before use and confirm resting voltage reads at or above 8.0V before starting a shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

My S730 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but scans fail

The imager needs a minimum voltage threshold to fire accurately — if the new pack shipped partially discharged, the cell voltage may be just below that threshold even though the scanner powers on. Seat the pack in the cradle and charge it fully before attempting to scan. Once the pack reaches full charge, resting voltage should sit at or above 8.3V and the read failure will clear.

The scanner feels warm after a long warehouse shift — is that normal with this pack?

Sustained scan-and-transmit cycles generate heat because the imager, processor, and wireless radio are all drawing current simultaneously inside a compact housing with limited ventilation. A warm pack at end of shift is normal; a hot pack that's too uncomfortable to hold is not. If the housing gets that hot, check whether the wireless polling interval is set aggressively short in your middleware — reducing unnecessary radio wake cycles lowers sustained draw and heat buildup.

This battery doesn't seem to last as long as the original did when it was new — what's affecting shift endurance?

Two things drive capacity fade faster than most users expect on barcode scanners: scan burst frequency and wireless polling rate. Every trigger pull spikes current draw, and every wireless check-in does the same — high-volume picking shifts can add up to hundreds of combined inrush events per hour. Confirm the new pack reached a full charge before the shift started, then check your scan application's wireless polling interval and reduce it if it's set below 500ms — that single change can noticeably extend shift endurance.
