Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dolphin 7900 / 9500 / 9550 / 9900 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (200-00591-01)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh (25.16Wh) lithium-ion pack replaces part number 200-00591-01 in the Dolphin 7900, 9500, 9550, and 9900 handheld barcode scanners. These are mobile data capture devices used in retail, warehousing, and inventory workflows. The pack slots into the original battery bay and communicates with the host BMS without modification.
- 7900 / 9500 / 9550 / 9900 platform compatibility: All four models share the same 7.4V nominal voltage rail, battery bay form factor, and BMS communication protocol, which is why a single part number covers the range. The connector pinout and pack dimensions are identical across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a 7900 unit under combined scan-trigger and wireless radio load. The BMS held voltage within the accepted operating window across repeated scan bursts and correctly flagged low-cell conditions before shutoff.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack operations: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before putting the pack into rotation. Scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum state of charge — a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first shift's peak-demand period.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
A charging error on the dock immediately after fitting a new pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a fault in the battery itself. The Dolphin charging cradle uses spring-loaded pogo pins that can accumulate oxidation or debris, especially in high-traffic warehouse docks. Even a small resistance increase at those contacts causes the charger to misread the pack's initial voltage and throw an error flag. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the charge indicator should clear within 30 seconds.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During back-to-back scan sequences, the device pulls current simultaneously from the laser or imager, the processor, and the wireless radio. On a degraded or deeply discharged pack, this combined draw causes a momentary voltage sag that drops the radio below its minimum operating threshold and kills the connection. The scanner may appear to still be scanning locally while wireless sync has already dropped. If this happens mid-shift, dock the unit for 10–15 minutes to bring the cell above 3.7V per cell before resuming high-frequency scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dolphin 7900 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — laser fires but nothing registers
The imager or laser decoder needs a minimum supply voltage to process scan data — if the replacement pack shipped at storage charge (typically around 3.6–3.8V per cell), there may not be enough headroom for the decoder circuit under load. The scan trigger itself draws a spike of current that a partially charged cell handles poorly. Put the unit in the cradle for a full charge cycle first, then test — the decoder should respond normally once the pack is above 4.0V per cell.
The scanner gets noticeably warm on the back after a few hours of continuous use — is that the battery?
Yes, sustained combined draw from the wireless radio and rapid scan triggering generates heat inside the enclosed housing, and the pack surface temperature rises with it. This is normal behaviour under heavy polling loads, but if the pack feels hot rather than warm, the BMS may be throttling output to protect the cells. Rotate to a second pack mid-shift and let the warm unit cool in the cradle — thermal throttling clears once the cell temperature drops below 45°C.
The new pack isn't lasting as long through a shift as our old batteries did at their best — what's happening?
A new lithium-ion pack often needs 3–5 full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity — cells shipped from storage don't deliver full 3400mAh on day one. Also check your scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval in the device settings; both draw continuously and reduce effective capacity in high-throughput environments. Run the pack through three full cradle charges with normal use between each, then reassess shift endurance before concluding the pack is underperforming.
