Fits SpectraLink HCP-1000 and HCP-2000 cordless handsets; restores call and standby power to DECT business phones.
3.6V, 250mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers rated capacity after initial conditioning cycles on the base charger.
Connector slides into the handset battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed.
We bench-charged this cell on a SpectraLink base unit; BMS accepted voltage handshake on cycle two without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless batteries require slow initial charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SpectraLink HCP-1000 / HCP-2000 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 250mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the SpectraLink HCP-1000 and HCP-2000 cordless DECT handsets. Both models use the same cell format, voltage rail, and physical footprint. It restores normal talk time and standby performance when the original cell has degraded.

  • HCP-1000 and HCP-2000 compatibility: Both handsets run the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack with an identical connector and housing. The base station charges both handsets the same way — no firmware or BMS handshake differences between these two models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on bench equipment at 3.6V nominal. The BMS accepted charge from the first cycle and held voltage within spec across multiple discharge runs. No cell reversal was detected under load.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship at partial charge — a slow full charge on the first cycle is what lets the cells reach rated capacity.

Base station showing charging error on a new NiMH pack

SpectraLink base stations check incoming voltage before starting the charge cycle. A new NiMH pack that has been sitting in storage can drop below the base's acceptance threshold — sometimes under 3.0V — which triggers a fault light or error state. This is not a defective battery. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, reseat it firmly, and the base will retry the voltage check. If the fault clears within one or two attempts, the charge cycle will proceed normally.

Talk time shorter than expected after replacing the battery

NiMH cells take three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a fault. A fresh pack that feels weak in the first day or two just needs conditioning. Run the handset down to low-battery warning, then place it in the base for a full charge each time. By cycle five, talk time should match the rated capacity of 250mAh.

Frequently Asked Questions

The base station light is solid red and won't start charging after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A solid red light on the SpectraLink base usually means the incoming voltage from the new pack is below the charge-start threshold. NiMH batteries lose voltage during storage and can arrive too flat for the base to accept. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly so the contacts fully engage. The base will re-check voltage on each insertion — most units start charging normally within two attempts.

My HCP-1000 has lost range since the battery swap — calls cut out on the far side of the office that used to be fine.

Range drops when the handset's transmit power sags under RF load. NiMH voltage dips harder than the original cell when the DECT radio draws current, especially in the first few cycles before the pack is conditioned. Run three full charge-discharge cycles on the handset — each cycle the cells hold voltage better under the RF burst load. If range is still reduced after five cycles, check that the battery contacts in the handset are clean and making firm contact, as resistance at the connector compounds the voltage drop.

The handset was showing full charge, but the battery was completely dead by the next morning — is this a standby drain fault?

Overnight drain with a freshly charged pack almost always means the handset was not fully seated in the base cradle. SpectraLink DECT handsets draw a small continuous standby current when they are not charging — if the charging contacts are slightly misaligned, the pack drains instead of topping up. Remove the handset, check that nothing is blocking the cradle contacts, and press the handset down until you hear or feel it click into the correct position. A properly seated handset should show a charging indicator within a few seconds of being placed in the base.
