Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TCL P588 / P588L — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (TLp020M7)
This is a 3.8V, 2000mAh (7.6Wh) Li-Polymer cell for the TCL P588 and P588L smartphones. It matches the OEM part number TLp020M7 and fits the original battery bay without modification. Capacity figure comes from the product data — 2000mAh at 3.8V nominal.
- P588 and P588L shared cell: Both variants run the same voltage rail and use the same connector pinout and BMS handshake, so one cell covers both. The P588L is a regional variant with identical internal battery architecture — no electrical difference at the cell level.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the P588 platform and logged BMS communication. The protection circuit responded correctly to end-of-charge at 4.2V and engaged undervoltage cutoff at the expected threshold without fault flags.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before any high-current charging session pushes current into an uncalibrated reference point.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the P588 after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits a voltage point the IC associates with a near-empty state, it signals the OS to shut down — even though usable charge remains. The modem and screen pull current spikes that accelerate the voltage drop past the IC's cutoff threshold. One full discharge cycle, draining to automatic shutdown and then charging uninterrupted to 100%, resets the coulomb counter to match the new cell and corrects the reported percentage.
USB charging not initiating on the P588 after battery replacement
If the replacement cell has been sitting in storage and dropped below approximately 3.0V, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks charge current from the USB port. The phone will not respond to a cable and may show no charge indicator at all. Connect the device to a low-current USB source — a standard 5V/500mA port, not a fast charger — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. This allows the charge IC to trickle current past the BMS lockout threshold before the device attempts a full boot sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions
The TCL P588 shuts off at around 25% after I put in a new battery — is the cell faulty?
The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC calibrated itself to the old degraded cell's discharge curve, so it reads the new cell's voltage incorrectly and triggers shutdown early. Run one complete cycle: drain the phone to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption at standard charge rate. After that single cycle the coulomb counter resets to the new cell and the percentage will track correctly.
The P588 feels warm near the battery area while charging right after a cell swap — is this normal?
A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC works harder in the first few cycles and generates slightly more heat. This is expected and settles after three to five full charge cycles as the cell's impedance drops. If the device becomes hot to the touch or the charger disconnects repeatedly, check that the charge IC is not receiving a current level above what the standard OEM adapter supplies — drop to a 5V/1A source and observe whether the warmth reduces.
My P588 shows the battery percentage jumping around erratically — it went from 60% to 34% in two minutes without heavy use.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell after it lost its reference data from the old cell. The coulomb counter does not have an accurate discharge model yet and reports unstable percentage values as a result. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles — drain to zero shutdown, charge to 100% both times — without interrupting the charge mid-way. After the second cycle the IC stabilises its curve and the percentage display will update smoothly.
