Fits TomTom Go 300, Go 400, Go 500, Go 530 and eight other models; replaces OEM part number VF5.
This 3.7V 2600mAh Li-ion cell delivers 9.62Wh — sufficient for a full day of turn-by-turn navigation on typical routes.
The battery slides into the vertical slot beneath the touchscreen with the connector tab facing upward; locking tab clicks firmly when seated.
We bench-tested this cell on a Go 400 unit; the BMS powered the GPS receiver and display without cutoff through a full charge cycle.
After installation, power the navigator fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before relying on it for navigation — cold start after battery swap takes 5–10 minutes for first fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Go 300 / Go 500 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (VF5)

This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion cell replacing OEM part VF5 in TomTom portable GPS navigators. It fits the Go 300, Go 400, Go 500, and Go 530 among other models in the same series. Voltage, connector, and BMS signalling match the original spec.

  • Go 300 / 400 / 500 / 530 shared platform: These models use the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. One cell covers the entire family because TomTom standardised the VF5 across multiple revision runs of this navigator line.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and restart cycles on a Go 500 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, the charge controller reached full cutoff correctly, and the fuel-gauge readout tracked accurately from 100% down to the low-voltage threshold.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power interruption — including a battery swap — the Go 300 series loses its cached satellite almanac. Power the unit on outdoors and leave it stationary. Expect the first GPS fix to take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts will lock in under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

Why the Go 300 drops saved routes and favourites after a battery swap

The Go 300 stores some navigation data — including recent destinations and certain route preferences — in battery-backed volatile RAM rather than flash memory. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the contents are wiped. Saved favourites stored in the device's main flash memory survive the swap, but anything held only in RAM does not. Before swapping the battery, sync the device with TomTom Home or export your routes to avoid losing recent data.

Go 300 shutting off without warning before the battery indicator reaches empty

After fitting a new cell, the fuel-gauge calibration carried over from the old battery is inaccurate. The device may show two or three bars remaining, then cut off abruptly when the cell voltage drops to the protection threshold — around 3.0V under load. This is a calibration mismatch, not a faulty battery. Run two or three full discharge-and-charge cycles to let the fuel gauge re-learn the actual capacity curve and align the low-battery warning with real remaining charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Go 500 is taking nearly 10 minutes to find a GPS signal after I fitted the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong with the battery. A full power removal wipes the satellite almanac the device stores in battery-backed memory, forcing a cold start. The receiver has to download fresh orbital data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Leave the unit stationary outside and do not interrupt the process — once the almanac rebuilds, subsequent locks will drop to under a minute.

My Go 300 saved routes and recent destinations disappeared after the battery swap — where did they go?

The Go 300 holds recent destinations and some route data in volatile RAM that requires constant power to retain. Removing the battery wipes that RAM entirely. Favourites and maps stored in flash memory survive, but anything only in RAM is gone. Before any future swap, sync the device with TomTom Home to back up saved places to your PC first.

The battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when the screen is just sitting idle — is the cell defective?

The cell is working normally. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, the map renderer, and the backlit touchscreen simultaneously — that combination draws significantly more current than a dim idle screen. The GPS receiver alone accounts for a large share of the load. Reduce screen brightness to the lowest usable level and, where your mount allows it, use a 5V USB car charger to keep the cell topped up during longer drives.
