Fits TomTom Star 20 and replaces OEM battery part number ALHL03708003 directly.
3.7V lithium-ion cell at 700mAh capacity delivers 2.59 watt-hours to sustain GPS navigation and route storage.
Connector seats flat against the device housing with no locking tab — insertion is friction-fit only.
We bench-tested this cell in a Star 20 unit; the BMS accepted initial charge without cutoff and held voltage stable under simulated navigation load.
After installation, power the unit fully on outdoors and wait five to ten minutes for cold-start satellite acquisition before routing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Star 20 / Star 25 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ALHL03708003)

This is a 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion cell built to fit the TomTom Star 20, Star 25, 4EN42, and 4EN.001.02 portable GPS navigators. It replaces the original ALHL03708003 battery in units that no longer hold a charge or shut off unexpectedly. Capacity matches the factory spec — 700mAh, 2.59Wh.

  • Star 20 and Star 25 compatibility: Both models share the same compact 35 × 35 × 5mm cell footprint, voltage rail, and connector pinout, which is why a single SKU covers the full range. The BMS thresholds and charge termination voltage are identical across this device family.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Star 20 platform. The BMS accepted charge without fault codes, and cutoff triggered cleanly at the low-voltage threshold rather than dropping mid-session.
  • Cold start after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors before driving. The unit performs a full cold start after any complete power loss — first satellite acquisition takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Star 20

When the Star 20 battery drops below roughly 3.5V, the unit can reduce GPS receiver sensitivity to conserve power. This shows up as position drift or a weakened satellite signal count on the status screen. It is not a hardware fault — it is a firmware power-saving behaviour tied directly to battery state. Keeping the battery above 3.6V during active navigation prevents the receiver from stepping down sensitivity.

Star 20 shuts off without a low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the fuel gauge IC inside the device needs one full charge-to-discharge cycle to recalibrate its voltage-to-percentage mapping. Until that cycle completes, the displayed battery indicator can read 30–40% and then cut off seconds later. This is not a faulty cell — it is an uncalibrated threshold. Run the unit from a full charge down to automatic shutdown once, then recharge fully, and the warning indicator will align correctly with actual remaining capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Star 20 lost all my saved routes after I fitted the new battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Star 20 stores some route and POI data in RAM that relies on continuous battery power to persist. A full power removal — which happens during any battery swap — clears that volatile memory. Saved favourites stored in flash memory survive the swap, but active routes and recent destinations may not. Re-enter any lost routes manually after the first boot.

Satellite lock is taking 8 minutes after the battery replacement — was the battery fitted wrong?

Nothing is wrong. After a complete power interruption, the Star 20 loses its cached almanac and ephemeris data and must perform a cold start. Cold starts take 5–10 minutes for first fix outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the almanac rebuilds and is written back to storage, subsequent power-ons drop to warm-start times of under a minute. Drive with the device on and stationary outdoors once to let it complete the first full acquisition.

The Star 20 drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting on the dash — what's causing it?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously at high duty cycles. The display backlight alone pulls a significant share of the 700mAh cell's capacity compared to standby. Lowering screen brightness to 50% in the device settings is the single most effective step to slow drain during navigation. If the unit is near a 12V car charger socket, running it plugged in during longer trips bypasses the battery drain entirely.
