3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion cell delivers the same energy capacity as your original pack.
Connector slides straight in; no locking tab or special orientation needed on this unit.
We bench-tested the BMS on a Route XL; cell accepted charge without cutoff faults.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow satellite acquisition before navigation—cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute subsequently.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Route XL / One XXL 540S — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P11P20-01-S02)

This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the TomTom Route XL, One XXL 540S, XXL540, and XXL 540S GPS navigators. It restores power to the display, processor, and GPS receiver after the factory cell degrades or fails. OEM part number P11P20-01-S02 confirms fitment across this device family.

  • Route XL and XXL 540S series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail, so one cell covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Route XL platform. The BMS handled charge termination correctly and the device powered on without fault codes.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power removal, the GPS receiver loses its almanac cache and must perform a cold start. Take the unit outdoors after fitting and leave it powered on — first satellite lock typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac rebuilds.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the Route XL

As the cell voltage falls toward the low-battery threshold, the Route XL reduces power to the GPS receiver to extend operation. Lower receiver sensitivity means the unit struggles to hold lock on weaker satellite signals, particularly in urban canyons or under tree cover. This is firmware-managed behaviour, not a hardware fault. Keeping the battery above 3.5V maintains full receiver sensitivity.

Device shutting off with no low-battery warning on screen

A new cell and a degraded original do not share the same discharge curve. The Route XL's battery indicator is calibrated against the original cell's curve, so it can read 20% remaining while the actual cell voltage has already reached the cutoff threshold. The BMS then trips and the unit powers off without warning. Run two or three full charge-to-cutoff cycles to let the firmware recalibrate its fuel gauge — after that, the on-screen indicator will align with the actual remaining charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Route XL saved routes and favourites disappeared after fitting the new battery — are they gone for good?

Saved routes and favourites on the Route XL are stored in flash memory, not battery-backed RAM, so they survive a full power removal. If they appear missing after the swap, the device likely needs a full boot cycle to remount the storage correctly — power off completely, wait 10 seconds, then power on again. If the data still does not appear, connect the unit to TomTom HOME or MyDrive to restore from a cloud backup. No data is written to the battery itself.

The Route XL is shutting off mid-journey even though the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — what's happening?

The on-screen fuel gauge is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell discharges slightly differently, so the indicator can show remaining charge while the actual cell voltage has already hit the BMS cutoff at around 3.0V. Run the battery down fully to cutoff and charge it back to 4.2V two or three times — the firmware will recalibrate its gauge against the new cell's actual curve and the early shutoffs will stop.

Active navigation drains the Route XL battery much faster than just leaving it on standby — is the battery faulty?

This is normal behaviour, not a fault. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full sensitivity, keeps the display lit, and processes map data continuously — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. The Route XL display brightness is the single biggest current draw. Set screen brightness to 50% or lower during navigation to reduce consumption, and use the vehicle charger on longer journeys.
