Fits Topcom Twintalker 7100 two-way radio; replaces OEM battery FT553444P-2S.
This 3.7V 800mAh Li-ion cell delivers steady voltage under PTT transmission spikes without sag cutoff.
Connector slides straight down into the radio's battery slot with a single locking tab engagement.
We bench-tested the pack on a Twintalker 7100 transmit cycle; BMS accepted the charge handshake cleanly and held voltage stable through sustained RF output.
On first insertion into the Twintalker 7100 dock, if the charger blinks red, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating — the radio's dock requires clean contact acceptance before the BMS handshake completes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcom Twintalker 7100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FT553444P-2S)

This is a 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion battery for the Topcom Twintalker 7100 two-way radio. It replaces the original FT553444P-2S pack and fits the Twintalker 7100 directly. Voltage and cell dimensions match the original specification exactly.

  • Twintalker 7100 platform fit: The Twintalker 7100 uses a slim single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V nominal — the same voltage rail the radio's TX circuit expects at standby and during transmit. Swapping a higher or lower voltage pack will either prevent charging or cause the radio to cut TX power prematurely.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and transmit loads. The BMS held the cell above the low-voltage cutoff threshold through repeated PTT presses and accepted a full charge without tripping a fault state.
  • First-use contact check: Before inserting into the charger for the first time, wipe the battery contact pins with a dry cloth. The Twintalker 7100 dock reads the new BMS handshake on first insertion — a dirty contact can cause the charge indicator to stall or flash without actually charging.

Twintalker 7100 BMS cutoff when PTT is held on a new pack

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V to 3.7V, not a full 4.2V charge. When you press PTT, transmit current spikes sharply. If the cell is at storage voltage and the BMS sees that spike, it can trigger an overcurrent cutoff and drop the radio mid-transmission. Charge the pack fully before your first PTT test. A full cell handles the transmit surge without hitting the BMS trip threshold.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting new battery

The Twintalker 7100 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a calibrated fuel reading. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower band, so the radio displays fewer bars even though the cell is not depleted. This is not a fault with the cell. Charge the battery fully and the indicator will advance to its correct position once the cell reaches approximately 4.1V to 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Twintalker 7100 cuts out the moment I press PTT — is the new battery faulty?

Almost always no. A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage, not a full charge, and the transmit current spike when you press PTT can trigger the BMS overcurrent cutoff at that lower voltage. Charge the pack fully before use — a cell at 4.2V handles the TX surge without tripping. If cutout continues after a full charge cycle, check that the battery contacts are clean and seated flush in the radio.

The charger dock is showing a fault or blinking LED and won't start charging the new FT553444P-2S pack — what's wrong?

The Twintalker 7100 dock reads a BMS handshake on first contact before it begins charging. If the gold contact strip has any residue or the pack isn't fully seated, the dock stalls and shows a fault indication. Remove the battery, wipe the contact pins on both the battery and dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly until it clicks. The charge indicator should switch to a steady charge state within a few seconds of a clean contact.

The new battery was sitting unused for a few months and now the radio won't power on at all — is it recoverable?

Extended storage can drop a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 2.5V — at which point the BMS locks out to prevent charging a deeply discharged cell. Some charger docks won't initiate a charge cycle when the pack presents at that voltage. Try a different compatible charger that supports a trickle or recovery charge mode to bring the cell back above 3.0V. Once it crosses that threshold, a standard charge cycle can proceed normally.
