Replaces Yaesu FNB-82LI for VX-2, VX-2E, VX-2R, and VX-1 handheld radios.
3.7V at 1050mAh delivers the same output voltage as OEM cells for full TX and RX performance.
Connector slides vertically into the battery slot with a spring-loaded latch on the radio housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a VX-2 under sustained PTT cycles — BMS accepted the handshake immediately and held voltage flat through repeated transmit bursts.
On first charge in a Yaesu dock, if the indicator stalls at one bar instead of green, remove the battery, wipe both gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — Yaesu platforms need a clean contact cycle to accept new cell firmware before charging advances.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Yaesu VX-2 / VX-2R Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-82LI)

This is a 3.7V 1050mAh Li-ion replacement for the Yaesu FNB-82LI battery. It fits the VX-2, VX-2E, VX-2R, and VX-1 compact handheld transceivers. The cell matches the original voltage rail and physical footprint of the OEM pack.

  • VX-2 series compatibility: The VX-2, VX-2E, and VX-2R share the same battery bay, contact layout, and 3.7V single-cell architecture. The VX-1 uses the same form factor. One pack fits all of these without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and transmit cycles on a VX-2R. The BMS held steady under PTT-triggered current spikes and returned to normal float voltage cleanly after each transmission burst.
  • First insertion on the VX-2 desk charger: If the charger LED flashes fault on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both battery and dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. The VX-2 charger requires a clean contact cycle to handshake with the new BMS before it will begin charging.

Why the VX-2R cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh pack

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.75V — not a full charge. When you key up on the VX-2R, transmit current can spike above 1A. If the cell is at storage voltage, the BMS may interpret that current draw as an overcurrent event and trip the output. The radio goes silent mid-PTT, then recovers when you release the key. Run at least one full charge cycle before transmitting — this raises cell voltage above the BMS overcurrent threshold and the behaviour stops.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge

The VX-2 uses a voltage-threshold bar display, not a fuel gauge chip. Each bar corresponds to a voltage band, and a new cell may settle slightly below the top band within the first hour off the charger as surface charge dissipates. This is not a capacity fault. Key the radio once to draw a small load, then check the display again — resting voltage stabilises around 4.1–4.15V after that initial drop and the indicator will reflect the correct charge level.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VX-2R goes silent mid-transmission even though the battery shows charged — what's happening?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the transmit current spike hitting the pack before it has a full charge behind it. New cells arrive at storage voltage, and the gap between storage and full charge is enough for the BMS to cut output under TX load. Charge the pack completely before your first transmission — a full charge brings cell voltage above the trip threshold and the cutout stops.

The charger dock LED is blinking fault and won't start charging the new pack — how do I clear it?

The VX-2 desk charger requires clean electrical contact to accept the BMS handshake from a new pack. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip on both the battery and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the pack with firm downward pressure until it clicks. If the fault LED persists, let the pack sit in the dock for 60 seconds without disturbing it — the charger needs a stable contact signal to recognise that the cell voltage is above its acceptance floor of approximately 3.0V.

The battery sat unused for several months and now the VX-2 won't power on at all — is the pack dead?

Extended storage can drain a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold, which locks the output circuit as a protection measure. Place the pack in the charger and leave it for at least two hours without interruption — some chargers apply a trickle pre-charge when they detect a deeply discharged cell, which slowly brings voltage back above the ~2.5V recovery threshold. If the charger LED shows any activity after 15–20 minutes, the pack is recovering. If there is zero LED response after 30 minutes, measure the battery contacts directly — a reading below 2.0V means the cell has discharged beyond recoverable range.
