Fits Vertex Standard FT-2E, VX-2, VX-2R, VX-3 radios; replaces OEM FNB-82LI battery pack.
3.7V lithium-ion cell with 1050mAh capacity delivers full transmit power without voltage sag on sustained RF output.
Spring-loaded connector seats vertically into the radio's lower battery slot; gold contact strip faces the dock.
Bench tested on FT-2E radio at full PTT load with zero BMS overcurrent shutdowns or cutoffs.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Vertex platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard FT-2E / VX-2 / VX-3 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-82LI)

This is a 3.7V, 1050mAh lithium-ion replacement battery for the Vertex Standard FT-2E, VX-2, VX-2R, and VX-3 handheld transceivers. It replaces OEM part FNB-82LI and also cross-references E-DC-21 and BC-8260. The pack slots directly into the radio's battery bay using the original locking tab and contact strip.

  • FT-2E / VX-2 / VX-3 platform fit: These radios share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, battery bay dimensions, and four-pad contact layout. One pack covers the whole family because the BMS handshake operates on the same voltage rail and connector pinout across all listed models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through insertion, charge acceptance, and PTT transmit-load cycles on the VX-2R. The BMS accepted the charger handshake on first dock insertion and held voltage within spec through repeated transmit bursts without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
  • First insertion on the Vertex dock: If the dock LED shows a fault on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Vertex charging platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charge current begins.

Why the FT-2E cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted pack

New lithium-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.65V, not a full 3.7V charge. When you key up on the FT-2E, transmit current spikes sharply. If the cell is at storage voltage, that spike can pull the terminal voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold and trip a brief cutoff, which the radio reads as a drop-out. The fix is to fully charge the pack before first use. Once the cell is at a full state of charge, the voltage headroom is sufficient to absorb the PTT current spike without triggering the BMS.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge cycle

The VX-2 and VX-3 use a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a fixed voltage step. A new pack on its first charge cycle may not reach peak cell voltage immediately because the cell's internal resistance is still settling. This shows as one bar short on the display even though the charger has gone green. Run one full charge-discharge-charge cycle and the cell voltage at end-of-charge will stabilise at 4.2V, which maps correctly to the top bar on the indicator.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VX-2R cuts out the moment I press PTT on the new battery — is the pack faulty?

It is not faulty. New li-ion cells arrive at storage voltage, around 3.6V, and the PTT transmit current spike pulls the terminal voltage below the BMS trip threshold. This causes a momentary cutoff that looks like a dead pack. Charge the battery fully to 4.2V before first use and the transmit spike will no longer trigger the BMS.

The Vertex charger dock is blinking a fault LED and never starts charging the new FNB-82LI pack — what's happening?

The Vertex dock checks for a minimum contact voltage before it allows charge current to flow. If the pack arrived below the dock's acceptance threshold, or if the gold contact pads have a thin oxidation layer, the dock reads it as a fault. Remove the pack, wipe the four gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the pack with firm downward pressure, and the BMS handshake should complete — the LED should shift to a steady charge indicator within 30 seconds.

The radio is transmitting but output power feels weak and the bar indicator drops mid-shift — is this a cell capacity issue?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF load, not a capacity problem. When the cell is partially discharged, internal resistance rises and the voltage drops more sharply under the sustained current draw of repeated transmit cycles. The radio's power circuit interprets that voltage sag as a low-battery condition and reduces TX output to protect the pack. Keep the cell above 3.5V between shifts — if the bar indicator hits one bar, recharge before the next heavy-use period.
