TP-Link Neffos Y5L — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NBL-46A2020)

This is a 3.8V, 1800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the TP-Link Neffos Y5L smartphone. It replaces OEM part number NBL-46A2020 and fits the Y5L directly. Use it when the original cell has degraded to the point where the phone shuts down unexpectedly or will not hold a charge through normal daily use.

• Neffos Y5L fit: The Y5L uses a fixed-connector, non-removable battery bay with a specific flex cable orientation. This cell matches that connector pinout and the physical footprint at 60.96 × 56.20 × 4.70mm, so the BMS handshake between the charge IC and the new cell completes without fault codes.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Y5L charge IC and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without triggering a charge cutoff or thermal fault. Full charge termination occurred at the correct 4.35V endpoint, and the protection circuit responded normally to simulated load spikes.
• Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. The Y5L's fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Giving it one full reference cycle before resuming fast charging lets the coulomb counter lock onto accurate state-of-charge data for the new cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Neffos Y5L after a cell swap

A new cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile than the aged cell the fuel gauge IC was trained on. Under high-current loads — LTE modem transmitting, screen at full brightness — the voltage rail can dip below the BMS protection threshold even when the fuel gauge still reads 25–30%. The phone interprets this as a hard undervoltage event and shuts down immediately. Run one full discharge to below 5% and a full charge to 100% without interruption. After that reference cycle, the coulomb counter recalibrates and the shutdowns stop at normal low-battery levels around 3.5V.

Phone feels warm near the battery during the first few charges

A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. During the first two or three charge cycles, the charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, which converts more energy to heat than usual. This is normal and self-correcting — impedance drops as the cell cycles through its initial formation phase. If the phone becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold after the third full cycle, check that the charge IC is not stuck in fast-charge mode with an uncalibrated fuel gauge; dropping to a 5V standard charge cable for one cycle will confirm whether fast charge is the source.
