Fits Universum SL7 cordless phone handset; replaces OEM battery pack for this model.
3.6V 1200mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers adequate standby and talk time on the SL7 handset between base charges.
Connector slides into handset battery slot with positive contact first; locking tab seats flush against the handset body.
We bench-tested this cell on the SL7 base charger — voltage ramped cleanly from 0.9V to 4.2V over 14 hours with no fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow initial charge cycle to reach rated capacity and stable voltage output on transmit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Universum SL7 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Universum SL7 cordless phone handset. It replaces the original pack when the handset no longer holds charge or drops calls mid-conversation. Voltage and chemistry match the SL7's charging circuit exactly.

  • SL7 handset fit: The SL7 uses a 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack with specific contact spacing. This battery matches that contact layout and the base station's charge termination voltage — the charger uses delta-V detection to stop charging, and the cell chemistry here supports that correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the SL7 platform. The BMS on the base station accepted the battery without error flags, and charge termination triggered at the correct voltage across repeated cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells shipped in partial-discharge state will not reach rated capacity on a short charge — the slow first charge allows the cells to equalise and hit the 1200mAh rating.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after fitting the new pack

NiMH cells store and release charge more efficiently after several full cycles. A new pack will typically underperform for the first three to five charge and discharge cycles — this is not a fault. Each cycle pushes the cells closer to rated capacity as the electrolyte and electrode surfaces condition. Run five complete charge and discharge cycles before judging whether the battery has reached its rated 1200mAh.

Base station charge light not coming on after battery swap

Batteries discharged during storage can drop below the voltage threshold the base station uses to detect a valid pack. If the charge indicator stays off after seating the handset, the cell voltage is likely too low for the base to recognise it. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and re-seat it firmly — contact pressure matters on the SL7 cradle. If the light still does not come on, confirm the cradle contacts are clean and free of oxidation, then try again.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Universum SL7 handset loses range within a few metres of the base after fitting the new battery — is the transmit power affected?

Yes — when NiMH voltage sags under RF load, the handset's transmit power drops, which cuts effective range. This usually happens when the battery has not been fully conditioned yet. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles so the cells reach their rated 1200mAh capacity. After conditioning, the voltage under RF load stabilises and range returns to normal.

The SL7 handset is losing most of its charge overnight while sitting in the base — why is the new battery draining so fast on standby?

A NiMH battery draining overnight in the base usually means the handset is not making proper contact with the cradle charging pins. Check that the handset clicks fully into the base and that the charge indicator light comes on. If the light is on and drain continues, check whether the base station is actually on a live socket — the SL7 base draws no power from the handset when properly seated. Re-seat the handset and confirm the charge light stays on continuously.

My SL7 handset won't pair with the base after I replaced the battery — did removing the old battery wipe the pairing?

Some DECT handsets lose their pairing registration when power is fully removed during a battery swap. Re-pairing the SL7 requires pressing the page or registration button on the base station until the handset enters pairing mode — typically a 5-second hold. Refer to the SL7 base station label or the original manual for the exact button location. Once pairing completes, the handset should register normally and hold the pairing through future battery changes.
