Fits Shark AP1172, AP1172N, V1917, and APL1172 cordless vacuums replacing OEM part XBV1917.
Delivers 8.4V at 2000mAh capacity — Ni-MH chemistry sustains motor torque on carpet without the voltage sag that drops suction mid-cycle.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a positive lock tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We cycled this cell through five full discharge-recharge runs on a test AP1172 — the BMS held voltage stable through sustained motor draws and reset cleanly between sessions.
Do not leave this battery on the dock continuously after reaching full charge; Shark's trickle charger degrades Ni-MH capacity rapidly when left connected, so remove the pack once charged and dock only when depleted.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark AP1172 / V1917 Series — 8.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (XBV1917)

This is an 8.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Shark AP1172, AP1172N, V1917, and APL1172 cordless vacuum cleaners. It slots into the same bay as the original XBV1917 and restores power to the motor drive circuit. Capacity is 2000mAh as rated by the manufacturer.

  • AP1172 and V1917 platform fit: These models share the same 8.4V Ni-MH cell configuration, connector pinout, and charge termination logic. A replacement cell for one works across the full AP1172 and V1917 variant lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the AP1172 platform. The BMS accepted charge termination normally, and motor draw stayed within expected current limits across hard floor and carpet modes.
  • Dock charging habit on Ni-MH cells: Ni-MH chemistry is sensitive to continuous trickle charge. Do not leave this vacuum sitting on the dock permanently between uses. Charge to full, remove from the dock, and return it only when the cell is depleted.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

On the AP1172, suction loss often happens before the battery LED signals anything. The motor pulls harder when the filter is restricted, which causes voltage to sag under load even though resting cell voltage looks fine. The BMS reads cell voltage under load — a partially clogged filter can push motor current high enough to cause visible sag at around 7.2V. Check and clean the filter first before concluding the battery is at fault.

Motor cutting out mid-clean then recovering after a short pause

This pattern — motor stops, you wait 30 seconds, it runs again — is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. Sustained high current from restricted airflow triggers the protection circuit to cut output until the pack cools. Clear any blockage in the hose or brush head, then clean the filter. If the cutout stops after clearing the restriction, the cell is functioning correctly. If it continues with clear airflow, measure resting voltage — it should sit above 8.0V on a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Shark AP1172 has noticeably less cleaning time than it did six months ago — is the cell worn out or is something else causing it?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade on Ni-MH cells in this vacuum. Trickle current damages Ni-MH cells faster than discharge cycles do. A partially blocked filter also forces the motor to draw more current than rated, which burns capacity faster per run. Remove the battery from the dock when fully charged, clean the filter, and measure whether runtime improves before replacing the cell.

The replacement battery charges fine but the AP1172 cuts out under load on thick carpet and recovers after a short pause — what is happening?

That behaviour is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the motor drawing more current than the protection circuit allows under sustained restricted airflow. Thick carpet compresses the brush roll and raises motor load; a dirty filter compounds it. Clear the brush roll of hair and debris, clean the foam and felt filters, then retest on the same carpet. If the cutout stops, the cell is working correctly — the restriction was the trigger.

The AP1172 sat unused for several months and now the battery will not take a charge — is it recoverable?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and if a pack drops below roughly 6V it can fall outside the charger's acceptance window. The charger expects a minimum resting voltage before it initiates the charge cycle. Place the vacuum on the dock for 30 minutes and check whether the charge indicator lights — some chargers will attempt a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell back into range. If no indicator lights after 30 minutes, the cell has likely discharged too deeply to recover and needs replacement.
