Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Verathon BladderScan BVI 2500 / BVI 3000 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (0400-0039)
This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Verathon BladderScan BVI 2500 and BVI 3000 portable ultrasound systems. These devices are used in clinical settings to measure post-void residual bladder volume non-invasively. The OEM part number is 0400-0039.
- BVI 2500 and BVI 3000 compatibility: Both models use the same 7.2V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both without modification or adapter.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the BVI 2500 charge cycle and confirmed the BMS accepted it on the first charge. The protection circuit responded correctly to both charge termination and load cutoff events.
- Post-installation startup procedure: After fitting this battery, allow the BladderScan to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power mid-sequence flags a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.
BVI 2500 self-test failure after battery swap
The BVI 2500 runs a battery self-test at every power-on. A fresh Ni-MH cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle may not hit the internal voltage threshold the BMS expects. This causes the device to flag a battery fault even when the cell is fully charged. The fix is to run one complete charge-discharge cycle before returning the unit to clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS learn routine completes and self-test passes normally.
BladderScan showing low battery alarm immediately after a confirmed full charge
This alarm is triggered by a BMS voltage threshold check, not a capacity check. On a new Ni-MH cell, the resting voltage after first charge can sit slightly below the OEM calibration point the device was programmed to expect. The BVI 2500 interprets this as a low-charge condition and raises the alarm. Charge the battery fully, then discharge it completely through normal use and recharge — after one full cycle the resting voltage stabilises above the alarm threshold and the warning clears.

Frequently Asked Questions
The BladderScan BVI 2500 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for a few weeks — is the cell dead?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than most other chemistries, and if the battery dropped below the BMS recovery threshold during storage, the BladderScan's protection circuit will block power-on entirely. Connect the charger and leave it on a full charge cycle — most BMS controllers will re-initialise and accept the cell once input voltage is detected. If the device still won't boot after a complete charge, check that the terminal contacts are clean and fully seated, then attempt a second charge cycle before drawing any other conclusions.
The BVI 2500 shuts off mid-scan without any warning — what's causing that?
Medical-grade portable ultrasound devices apply a variable load profile during active scanning that stresses new cells harder than standby use. In the first 10 cycles, a fresh Ni-MH cell has not yet reached full electrochemical conditioning, so voltage can sag under the transducer load and trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff — shutting the unit off without a low-battery warning. This resolves progressively over the first several charge-discharge cycles as internal resistance drops. Do not use the device for patient assessments until at least one full conditioning cycle is complete.
The charge indicator on the BVI 2500 never reaches 100% on the first charge — is the battery faulty?
The BladderScan charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or cold cell, which extends the charge time and can cause the indicator to plateau below 100% on the first pass. This is normal Ni-MH charge behaviour, not a fault. Let the charger run to full termination without disconnecting — the IC uses a voltage delta or temperature delta to detect end-of-charge, and manual interruption resets that calculation. After the first complete charge, subsequent cycles will reach full indication as expected.
