Why the Dynascan 2B cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

A new lithium-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.65V, not a full 3.7V charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply, and the BMS sees the voltage dip under that load as a potential undervoltage condition. On a partially charged new pack, that dip can trip the overcurrent or low-voltage cutoff before the radio completes a transmission. The fix is straightforward: run a full charge cycle before first use, bringing the cell to its rated ceiling so the BMS has adequate headroom during TX spikes.

The Dynascan 2B reads battery level using voltage-threshold steps — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a fuel gauge percentage. A new pack at storage voltage sits in the lower threshold band and displays one or two bars even though the cell is not depleted. This is a voltage-state reading, not a defect. Charge the pack fully in the dock and the indicator will advance to the expected level once cell voltage reaches the top threshold.

The charger dock fault LED never clears after I inserted the new battery — what's happening?

The dock fault LED means the charger cannot complete a BMS handshake with the pack. First, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact pads on both the pack and dock with a dry cloth — oxidation or debris breaks the signal. If the LED still doesn't clear after reseating, the cell may have dropped below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold during storage; leave it seated for 10–15 minutes and the dock will typically re-attempt the charge cycle.

The Dynascan 2B drops to noticeably weaker audio output toward the end of a shift — is that the battery?

Yes. As cell voltage sags under sustained use, the radio's output stage receives less headroom and scales back RF and audio power to stay within operating limits. This is voltage sag under load, not a fault with the pack or radio. To delay the onset, avoid leaving the radio in continuous high-volume playback or repeated back-to-back transmissions — let the radio sit in standby between bursts so the cell voltage recovers between draws.
