Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vodafone Smart N9 / VFD720 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (TLp029D1)
This is a 3.8V 2800mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Vodafone Smart N9 and VFD720 smartphone. It uses OEM part number TLp029D1 and fits the original battery bay without modification. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge across a full day.
- Smart N9 and VFD720 compatibility: Both the Smart N9 and VFD720 share the same 3.8V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery covers both variants without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the VFD720 platform. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake on the first connection, and cell voltage held within spec across the full discharge curve.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins — skipping this step is the main cause of erratic percentage readings post-swap.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Smart N9 after a cell swap
The Smart N9's fuel gauge IC stores the discharge curve of the original cell in non-volatile memory. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage profile of the replacement. Under modem or screen load, the cell voltage drops faster than the gauge predicts, and the phone shuts down before the reported percentage reaches zero. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard current rewrites the coulomb counter baseline. After that cycle, shutdowns below 20% should stop.
Phone stays warm near the battery during the first few charges after replacement
A new Li-Polymer cell arrives with higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. The charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, and the extra heat is normal for the first two to three charge cycles. Impedance drops as the cell conditions. If the phone still runs noticeably warm after five full cycles, check that no background processes are drawing continuous load during charging — on the VFD720, disable Wi-Fi sync during charge until the cell is fully conditioned.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Vodafone Smart N9 shuts off at around 25% after fitting the new TLp029D1 battery — what's causing it?
The fuel gauge IC on the Smart N9 is still reading from the discharge curve it mapped to your old, degraded cell. When the new cell voltage drops under modem or screen load, it falls below the old curve's prediction and the phone cuts out early. Run one full discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge to 100% at standard rate with fast charging off. That single cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter to the new cell and the early shutoffs stop.
The battery percentage on my Smart N9 is jumping around erratically after the swap — is the new battery faulty?
It is not a faulty cell — it is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating. The coulomb counter lost its reference point the moment the old cell was disconnected, and it has no accurate baseline for the new cell yet. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles at standard charge rate, not fast charge. After the second cycle, the gauge has enough data to track the TLp029D1 discharge curve accurately and the percentage readout stabilises.
Fast charging stopped working after I replaced the battery on my VFD720 — the phone only charges slowly now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC on the VFD720 defaults to standard current until the BMS confirms the new cell is within safe voltage and temperature parameters. This is intentional behaviour — it is not a fault with the battery or the port. Charge to 100% once at standard rate, let the phone run down to around 10%, then charge again. The fast charge protocol re-engages once the BMS has logged one clean cycle on the new cell; confirm it by checking that the phone shows a fast-charge indicator on the next plug-in.
