Fits Worx WG180, WG280, WG380, WG580 and replaces OEM part WA3580.
40V, 2500mAh capacity delivers consistent power throughout the charge cycle on yard equipment.
Slide-on connector with positive-negative alignment tab locks perpendicular to the tool housing base.
We ran full-discharge cycles on a WG180 string trimmer; BMS held voltage under sustained motor load without thermal cutoff.
On first use with this 40V pack, run the trimmer or saw at half throttle for two cycles before full-load operation — allows the BMS to profile motor inrush current before locking overcurrent protection thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Worx WG180 / WG580 40V Platform — 40V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WA3580)

This is a 40V, 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery carrying OEM part number WA3580. It fits the Worx 40V platform, covering the WG180, WG280, WG380, and WG580 cordless garden tools. Voltage and capacity match the original pack spec exactly.

  • Worx 40V platform compatibility: The WG180, WG280, WG380, and WG580 share the same 40V battery rail, connector format, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack runs across all four tools without any adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge-discharge sequences and monitored the BMS under simulated motor-start inrush loads. The overcurrent protection tripped at expected thresholds and reset cleanly each time.
  • First-use load conditioning on 40V motors: Run the tool at half load for two cycles before applying full torque. This allows the BMS to profile the motor's inrush current draw and calibrate its overcurrent thresholds before you hit maximum demand applications.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge across the WG-series

When you pull the trigger on a brushless 40V motor, the initial inrush current can spike two to three times the steady-state draw. If the BMS has not yet profiled the motor load — common on a new or freshly stored pack — it can interpret that spike as a fault and cut the output rail. The tool goes dead for two to four seconds, then recovers. Running two partial-load cycles first gives the BMS enough data to set a realistic overcurrent threshold and stop false trips on normal start-up pulls.

Charger blinks red and never starts a charge cycle after storage

Li-ion cells that sit unused for several months can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. When that happens, most Worx 40V chargers refuse to start a full charge cycle and signal the fault with a red blink. The fix is a recovery or "wake-up" charge: place the pack on the charger, remove it after 30 seconds, and re-seat it firmly. Repeat two to three times until the charger registers a voltage above its acceptance threshold and transitions to normal charge mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

My WG180 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — pack seems fine on the charger. What's happening?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The motor-start inrush current spikes hard on trigger pull, and a new or recently stored pack hasn't yet profiled that load — so the BMS reads the spike as a fault and shuts the rail. Run the tool at light load for two full cycles and the BMS will recalibrate its overcurrent threshold. After that, full-trigger pulls should hold without dropout.

The tool runs fine at first but bogs badly after five minutes of continuous use — battery feels warm. Is this normal?

That's thermal cutoff starting to engage. Sustained heavy cutting generates heat in both the motor housing and the cells, and once cell temperature crosses the BMS thermal threshold the pack reduces output current to protect the cells. It's not a fault — it's the protection circuit working correctly. Let the pack cool for ten minutes between extended runs, and avoid holding the trigger at full load for longer than the tool's rated duty cycle.

Performance dropped noticeably after about six months — same tasks feel weaker. What causes that?

Repeated shallow cycling is the most likely cause. Charging to 100% and only discharging 10–20% before recharging degrades Li-ion capacity faster than deep cycles do. The cells lose active lithium at the electrode surface with each shallow cycle. To slow further fade, let the pack run down to around 20–25% before charging — most Worx 40V tools show a low-battery indicator at roughly 30V remaining.
