Sanyo SFX-D200 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NTL-200)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Sanyo SFX-D200 and related cordless phone handsets. It replaces OEM part numbers NTL-200 and TEL-BT200. The battery fits the handset bay directly and connects to the same charging circuit used by the original pack.

  • SFX-D200 / D210 / D30E5 / D31E6 platform compatibility: These models share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH bay, connector pinout, and base station charging voltage rail — one battery covers the entire group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the SFX-D200 base station charging cycle and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge without error flags. Voltage at full charge measured within spec for the Sanyo charging circuit.
  • First-charge procedure for NiMH cordless handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need this slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it causes the first several cycles to feel short.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On the first cycle, the pack may feel noticeably short. Each full cycle through the base station recovers more of the 700mAh rating. By cycle five, output should stabilise at or near the original battery's performance.

NiMH batteries that have sat in storage can drop below the voltage threshold the base station uses to confirm a valid pack is seated. The charger sees a voltage too low to start a normal charge cycle and flags an error. Remove the handset, hold the power button for five seconds to drain residual charge, then reseat it in the base. This forces the charger to re-sample voltage and typically clears the fault.

My Sanyo SFX-D200 handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

No — several DECT cordless phones lose their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. The handset and base need to re-register. Press the "Find Handset" or "Page" button on the base unit, then follow the pairing sequence in your SFX-D200 manual (usually holding the handset's Talk key for three seconds while the base is paging).

My handset is fully charged but the range dropped noticeably after the new battery went in — why?

NiMH voltage sags under the RF transmit load before the cells are conditioned. The handset's transmit circuit pulls a short burst of current every time it communicates with the base, and an unconditioned pack can't sustain the voltage long enough to maintain full signal strength. Run three to five complete charge-discharge cycles through the base station. Range should recover once the cells reach stable 3.6V output under load.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base cradle, the charging contacts don't make consistent contact and the standby draw from the handset slowly empties the pack rather than keeping it topped up. Remove the handset, clean the gold contacts on both the handset and the cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset firmly until you feel it click into position.
