Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. Over a full winter, a pack left in the mower can drop below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 12V for an 18.5V pack. The charger's fault light comes on because its safety circuit blocks charging a cell group it reads as dead. To recover the pack, use a compatible Li-ion charger with a "recovery" or "wake" mode, or apply a brief low-current trickle until cell voltage climbs back above 14V, then switch to normal charge.
