Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alienware AW988 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery
This 3.7V 1500mAh Li-Polymer cell is a direct replacement for the Alienware AW988 wireless gaming headset. It fits the internal battery bay and connects to the headset's onboard charging and protection circuit. Use the Capacity figure from the product data: 1500mAh (5.55Wh).
- AW988 wireless platform: The AW988 runs a single Li-Polymer cell to power both the audio drivers and the wireless radio simultaneously. That combined draw means the cell must hold voltage across a wider load range than a simple audio-only headset. This 3.7V pack matches the voltage rail and physical footprint the headset expects.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the AW988 platform. The BMS accepted the new pack without error flags, and charge current tapered correctly at full capacity. No voltage cutoff trips occurred under sustained combined audio and radio draw.
- First-cycle base station logging: Place the headset in the base station and let it complete one uninterrupted full charge before use. The AW988 base station logs the new cell during this cycle — skipping it causes the charge indicator to misread remaining capacity.
Why the AW988 cuts out mid-session on a new battery
The AW988 draws simultaneously from the audio circuit and the 2.4GHz wireless transmitter. On a cell that hasn't completed its first full cycle, resting voltage can sit just above the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold. A short spike in combined draw — such as loud audio plus a wireless re-sync — pushes the cell below that threshold momentarily. The BMS shuts down the output to protect the cell, and the headset cuts out. One full charge cycle from the base station raises the cell's usable voltage window and stops this from happening.
Base station shows full charge but headset dies after short use
A new Li-Polymer cell ships at storage voltage, typically around 3.6–3.85V — not a full 4.2V charge. The base station's charge indicator reads the cell as nearly full because it checks voltage rather than actual capacity state. The headset then draws into real usable capacity quickly and cuts off. Seat the headset in the base, let it charge to a confirmed 4.2V terminal voltage, and the runtime estimate will reflect the true 1500mAh capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
My AW988 keeps cutting out mid-call even though the battery shows charged — what's causing it?
This is a voltage sag issue, not a charge level issue. The wireless radio and audio circuit pull current at the same time, and if the new cell hasn't completed a full conditioning cycle, its voltage drops sharply under that combined load and trips the BMS cutoff. Seat the headset in the base station and let it run one complete uninterrupted charge to 4.2V before use. That single cycle is usually enough to stop the dropouts.
The AW988 base station is showing a charging error after I fitted the new battery — how do I fix it?
The base station performs a BMS handshake when a new cell is first installed, and it can flag an error if that handshake times out — usually because the cell voltage came in below the threshold the base expects. Remove the headset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly in the charging cradle. If the error clears and charge current flows, leave it for a full cycle; if the error persists, check that the battery connector is fully engaged and the contacts are clean.
Talk time on my AW988 is noticeably shorter than rated for the first few charges — is the battery faulty?
It isn't faulty — Li-Polymer cells need 3 to 5 full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On cycle one, usable capacity can sit 15–20% below the 1500mAh figure because the electrolyte hasn't fully wetted the electrode surfaces. Run the headset down to the low-battery warning, then charge fully each time for the first five cycles. By cycle five, capacity should be at or very close to the rated 1500mAh.
